New Delhi, 16 April 2022: Recently, the Haryana government declared that it will distribute tablets to students of Classes 10-12 in the month of May 2022. A meeting of the high-powered purchase committee chaired by Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar approved the purchase of goods and items to be procured by various departments at a cost of over Rs. 100 crore.Β

  • The devices will have preloaded content, along with personalized and adaptive learning software, and free internet data will also be provided to the students.Β 
  • The procurement of personalized and adaptive learning software costing more than Rs 5 crore for the higher classes have been approved.Β 
  • Besides this, the procurement of around five lakh data SIM cards, costing Rs 47 crore, was also approved by the committee. These SIM cards will have a daily data limit of 2 GB and are supposed to be inserted into the tablets.Β 

Note: It has been estimated that around 2.5 lakh tabs will be distributed to students studying in classes 10-12.Β

  • The scheme aims to bridge the gap in the digital education of most of the children studying in government schools.
  • These students are from economically weaker and deprived sections and are not able to buy devices like smartphones and tablets.
  • Moreover, the tablets will have digital materials, e-books, various types of test videos, and study materials related to the class-wise syllabus in government schools will be available on the tablets which will be given to the students.

  1. On Monday, April 11, 2022, the Uttar Pradesh Higher Education Minister – Yogendra Upadhyay – announced yet another round of distribution of smartphones and tablets to the youth across the state. The minister also mentioned that the distribution will take place at Isabella Thoburn (IT) College in Lucknow, in the presence of public representatives.Β 
  2. In 2021, the Uttar Pradesh Government announced the distribution of over 1 crore tablets to students between the age group of 18 and 25. The UP government believed that this initiative would boost the students’ efforts, who would be appearing in the upcoming competitive exam. Furthermore, the candidates would have direct access to online coaching during this time of pandemic with the help of these tablets.
