RRB NTPC Notification – Dates, Vacancies, Pay Scale, Selection Process

RRB NTPC Notification is one of the most important documents which includes all the crucial exam-related details. Every year, the Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) releases the official RRB NTPC notification to recruit aspirants for the Non-Technical Popular Categories (NTPC) Graduate and Undergraduate posts. It consists of proper guidelines for the candidates to follow throughout the RRB NTPC recruitment process. 

For CEN 01/2019 RRB NTPC exam, the Railway Recruitment Board released the notification on 28th February 2019. Against a total of 35,208  vacancies, RRBs have received a total of 1,26,30,885 applications for RRB NTPC 2020*. 

*Note: RRB NTPC 2019 was planned to be conducted in June 2019. However, uncalled events like non-finalisation of the exam conducting agency, exam centres and COVID-19 pandemic delayed the exam. The same exam would now be conducted as RRB NTPC 2020. This year, RRB and Railway Ministry jointly announced that the postponed RRB NTPC exam 2019 will be conducted from 15th December 2020

RRB NTPC Notification  – Eligibility Criteria

Both undergraduate and postgraduate posts have different RRB NTPC eligibility criteria.

  2. English Language Typing: 30 words per minute

RRB NTPC Notification  – Application/Registration Process

RRB NTPC application form was released on 1st March 2019. The online registration process was lengthy as nearly 1.26 crore candidates applied for around 35,208 vacancies in the posts associated with RRB NTPC. The last date to submit the RRB NTPC registration form (online) was 31st March 2019. 

Candidates could pay their application fee via online mode (net banking/credit card/debit card/UPI) or offline mode (SBI Challan or Post Office Challan). The last date to pay the online RRB NTPC application fee was 5th April 2019 until 11:59 PM. 

RRB NTPC application process is divided into 2 parts. The first part comprises online registration and the second part consists of application and fee payment procedure. 

In the first part, candidates require registering themselves by visiting the official RRB NTPC website (www.indianrailways.gov.in) and selecting the zone from where they would prefer to apply for the exam. 

Once the registration process is complete, candidates will move ahead to the second part. In this part, they have to fill out 3 sections in the RRB NTPC application form:

  1. Personal Details
  2. Details related to Education Qualifications
  3. Uploading Photograph and Signature

The application fee payable for each category and the refund amount (after the candidates appear for the Stage 1 CBT exam) is given in the table below:

Candidates would be allowed to pay their application fees via 2 modes:

  1. Online – Net Banking/Credit card/Debit card/UPI
  2. Offline – SBI Challan Payment mode where cash can be deposited  in any branch of SBI/ Post Office Challans (Payment mode in any branch of Computerized Post Office)

Only after the payment is successful and candidates’ find their RRB NTPC application status 2019 ‘Accepted,’ the application process will be considered complete.

Candidates will get 4 options for every question. For every correct answer, they will be awarded 1 mark. However, 1/3 mark will be deducted for every wrong answer.  The normalization of marks will be done to adjust the difficulty of question papers and shortlist the candidates for 2nd Stage of CBT as per their merit.

RRB NTPC Notification  – Selection Stages

RRB NTPC recruitment or selection process includes five stages. 

  1. Preliminary Exam (Computer Based Test)
  2. Main Exam (Computer Based Test)
  3. Document Verification
  4. Medical Fitness Test
  5. Final Selection

Besides these five, there are two additional stages meant for specific posts – 

  1. Computer-based Aptitude Test (For the post of Traffic Assistant and Assistant Station Master)
  2. Typing Skill Test (For the post of Junior Accounts Assistant cum Typist, Senior Clerk cum Typist and Senior Time Keeper)

Computer-Based Aptitude Test (CBAT)

  • Candidates who have opted for the post of Traffic Assistant and Station Master are eligible to sit for the Computer-based Aptitude Test.
  • They will be given different test batteries, which will comprise of 5 or 6 tests (as per the posts).
  • Candidates can take this test in English and Hindi languages.
  • Candidates appearing for this test will be relieved to know that there is no negative marking in CBAT.
  • They need to secure a minimum T-Score of 42 marks in each of the test batteries to qualify this exam.

Typing Skill Test

In this test, candidates will have to type 25 words per minute in Kruti Dev or Mangal font (Hindi) and 30 words per minute in the English language on a standard computer without using any editing tool and spell check facility tool.

RRB NTPC Notification  –  Syllabus

RRB NTPC syllabus is divided into 3 sections:

  • General Awareness
  • Mathematics
  • General Intelligence and Reasoning

Questions asked in RRB NTPC 2019 exam will be based on Class 10, 12 and graduation curriculum.

RRB NTPC Notification  – Shortlisting and Empanelling

  1. The shortlisting procedure for RRB NTPC exam takes place after the completion of Stage 1 CBT. 
  2. The number of candidates selected for the Stage 2 CBT RRB NTPC exam is 20 times more than the number of actual vacancies. 
  3. Candidates are shortlisted for the second test based on their merit and the cutoff marks set by RRB authority. 
  4. When the RRB NTPC Stage 2 tests are complete, the candidates shortlisted in that round become eligible to move forward in the Computer-based Aptitude Test (CBAT) and Typing Skill Test.
  5. The number of candidates selected for the CBAT and Typing Skill Test is 8 times more than the number of actual vacancies.
  6. Candidates, after completing all the stages, become eligible and move ahead in the RRB NTPC recruitment stage.
