Finland & Kerala to Collaborate to Revamp Education Sector in the State

October 07, 2022, THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, Kerala Education Sector: The Government of Finland and the State Government of Kerala have begun talks on collaborating to revamp the education sector in Kerala.  In addition to this, academic ties will also be developed between Kerala and Finland’s academic and research institutes. In the coming days, the official-level dialogues will continue, and a timeline for discussions will be developed.

The Kerala Delegation described the state’s efforts to update the school curricula and its aim to incorporate the best elements of the Finnish educational system. The Global Innovation Network for Teaching and Learning, which is a network of Finnish higher education institutions, with partners from India, China, and Africa, for collaboration in research and education, will be the nodal organisation to take forward the discussions.

Kerala Education Sector – Finland and Kerala Collaboration Details

  • Educational experts from Finland will work in collaboration with Kerala’s Education Sector to upgrade the areas of pre-primary education and care, technical education, teacher exchange programmes, the imparting of scientific and math education, and the grading system for student evaluation at various stages.
  • Research institutions in Kerala will develop educational ties with those of Finland, as decided by the high-level team from Kerala headed by Chief Secretary V. P. Joy and Finland’s State Secretary of Education, Dan Koivulaakso.
  • In addition to this, Finland has also appointed an academic specialist in New Delhi to advance the negotiations with the Union Government on the same line.
  • The Global Innovation Network for Teaching and Learning, which is a network of Finnish higher education institutions, will carry forward the discussions between Kerala and Finland. It will function as a nodal organisation.
