JEE Main 2021 Clashes with CBSE and State Board Exams – Reschedule Queries Reach NTA

The clash between JEE Main 2021 (May session) and CBSE board exam dates has raised concerns amongst students.

On 2nd February 2021, Union Education Minister Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ announced the date sheet of CBSE Board Class 12th examination 2021. Since the last academic session has not been an easy one for students, parents and teachers, the release of the CBSE schedule brought a welcome relief to their minds.

However, it was later noticed that the dates of the CBSE Class 12 Board exam 2021 are clashing with the dates of the May session of the IIT JEE Mains 2021 examination.

CBSE Class 12 Board Exam Time Table 2021

While preparations for the examinations are underway, candidates in the Bio-Math combination are now in a dilemma over this sudden date clash. CBSE students, who have opted for Maths and Biology for their Class 12 Board Exams, have Biology exams scheduled on 24th May 2021, the same day when the JEE Main exam 2021 is scheduled to start.

Note: The JEE Main 2021 exam is scheduled to be conducted from 24th May to 28th May 2021.

Both students and teacher bodies are now requesting NTA for a change in JEE Mains 2021 May session exam dates so that no student has to skip the CBSE examination.

JEE Main 2021 & CBSE Board Exam 2021 Clash – Requests from Candidates

It is a known fact that the CBSE examination results are really important for the students, and are a part of JEE Main examination eligibility criteria. So, skipping the CBSE examination or JEE Main 2021 examination is out of question for any aspiring Engineering candidate.

Sushmita Saha, a student of Class 12 (Kendriya Vidyalaya, Kolkata) has been preparing diligently for both the Senior Secondary examination as well as JEE Main 2021. This sudden date clash has left her devastated. She shared, “I have taken Biology and Maths with Physics and Chemistry so that I can appear for both NEET and JEE 2021. As the NEET 2021 schedule is not out, I was preparing for the Class 12 exam as well as JEE Main 2021. Now I don’t know how I can skip any one of the examinations.”

Similarly, another student has also shared his plight regarding JEE Main 2021 and CBSE exam date clash on Twitter.

Another student has shared concerns regarding the date clash of his examination (28th May 2021) with JEE Main 2021 exam date.

JEE Main 2021 & CBSE Board Exam 2021 Clash – Concerns from Other State Boards

Apart from CBSE, a similar issue has been raised by the Karnataka Pre-University II (Class 12) students too.  According to the timetable, the State Board examination begins on 24th May 2021. The first subject that students (Engineering aspirants) would sit for that day is Physics.

Students from Karnataka Pre-University II have also shared their concerns regarding the exam date clash to NTA. Added to this, the teachers have also come to the support of students and have placed their arguments related to the need for leniency from NTA’s side.

JEE Main & CBSE Board Exam 2021 Clash – What is NTA’s Solution?

With so many requests from CBSE and other State Board students resonating on the Twitter account of NTA, it seems the exam authority has a fix for this troublesome issue. The officials from the National Testing Agency stated that the candidates do not need to worry about this matter.

One of the NTA officials stated, “Architectural Drawing subject students generally do not pick Biology as an option. The actual student numbers picking both Biology and Engineering Drawing options would be very less. Besides, 24th May would in all probability be the exam day for students appearing for Paper 2 – B. Arch or B. Planning.”

Even though NTA asked students not to be petrified by this clash, candidates have been constantly asking to change the JEE Main 2021 exam date. Later, NTA strictly stated that the JEE Main 2021 exam dates will remain unchanged.

But the exam body also relieved the students, whose CBSE exam dates were clashing with JEE Main 2021, of their worries when they stated that the students will be provided with another exam attempt

As per the NTA official, “CBSE Board Class 12th students having exam on 24th May 2021 will not be given JEE Main 2021 slots on that day. We will collect the roll number of Class 12th CBSE Board Exam 2021 students from the CBSE by May. All the students appearing for Biology will be given exam sessions other than 24th May 2021.”
