AILET Counselling – Dates, Step-wise Process, Course Fee Structure

National Law University (NLU), Delhi will conduct AILET counselling 2020 for admission to its B.A. LLB and LLM programmes. For admission in the PhD courses, candidates will be required to go through a separate selection process. 

The B.A. LLB and LLM aspirants who qualify the AILET exam as per the cutoff are shortlisted for the counselling process. Candidates whose name appear in the merit list have to report at the AILET counselling venue in-person to secure their admissions. NLU Delhi will conduct AILET counselling 2020, which will be segregated into multiple offline rounds. 

On the AILET counselling day, the officials from NLU Delhi will verify the documents of the candidates to mark them eligible for admission. The final admissions are confirmed after the qualifying candidates pay the admission fee (post the offline AILET counselling process). AILET Counselling – Steps 

Candidates must have complete knowledge of the AILET counselling process before taking the exam. The steps for the AILET counselling process are as follows:

AILET Counselling – Stepwise Procedure

Here is a comprehensive explanation of the stepwise procedure for AILET counselling 2020. Check the same and get ready for the counselling process well in advance.

Step 1 – Issuance of course-specific merit list (allotment list) by NLU Delhi 

  • NLU Delhi will release a cutoff list. On the basis of the cutoff score, the officials will evaluate the performance of each candidate to prepare a merit list (also known as seat allotment list).
  • NLU Delhi will display the AILET merit list over the official website (nludelhi.ac.in). The merit list will consist of the names of the candidates along with their roll numbers, guardian’s name, gender and marks in AILET.

Step 2 – Downloading call letter

  • All the candidates shortlisted as per the AILET merit list will be issued a call letter. Similar to the procedure of AILET admit card download, candidates have to download the call letter for AILET counselling.
  • Candidates need to use their login credentials including application number/applicant’s name and date of birth to download the AILET call letter for counselling.

Step 3 – Reporting at the AILET counselling venue

  • Call letter will consist of multiple details including the counselling venue, date and time. Candidates must report at the counselling venue according to the as the date and time mentioned on the call letter.

Step 4 – Document verification

  • Candidates have to carry multiple documents including the AILET call letter at the counselling venue. The officials of NLU Delhi verify all the documents to mark the candidates eligible for admission.

Step 5 – Payment of admission fee

  • Candidates must also carry a demand draft of Rs. 50,000 drawn in favour of ‘The Registrar, National Law University Delhi’, payable at New Delhi on the counselling day. 
  • After submission of the demand draft, the authority will allot a seat provisionally. Candidates have to pay the balance admission fee before the last date for the final admission at NLU, Delhi,

AILET – Selection Procedure for PhD at NLU Delhi

PhD admission does not follow the conventional counselling process. A certain selection process in a defined chronology will be conducted for admissions to PhD programmes at NLU Delhi. The AILET selection process for PhD admission is as follows: 

  1. PhD admission at NLU Delhi will be a two-stage process including a written test and a research proposal. The two stages will be followed by an interview/viva-voce. 
  2. Candidates scoring 50% (45% for SC/ST/PwD) in the AILET exam will qualify the cutoff for further rounds. 
  3. NLU Delhi will prescribe the guidelines for evaluation of the research proposal. Doctoral Committee, with the assistance of the Research Advisory Committee, will evaluate the performance of the candidate as per the research proposal
  4. The shortlisting will be done as per the cutoff with respect to the performances of the candidate in both AILET and the Research Proposal
  5. Weightage to the AILET score and the research proposal score will be as follows

Candidates need to score a minimum of 50% marks in AILET as well as the Research Proposal to get admission in the PhD programme.

Note – Other than the above reservation policy, NLU Delhi will also have a horizontal reservation of 5% in each category for PwD candidates in all the courses. Also, only for the B.A. LL.B programme, female candidates too will have an entitlement to a horizontal reservation of 30%.

AILET Counselling – FAQs

✔️ Who conducts the counselling for admission at different NLUs including NLU Delhi

Consortium of NLUs conducts the counselling for all the NLUs except NLU Delhi on the basis of CLAT. On the other hand, only NLU Delhi will be responsible to conduct the counselling for admission on the basis of AILET 2020.

✔️ What is the mode for AILET counselling 2020?

NLU Delhi will conduct the AILET counselling 2020 in offline mode. However, the officials will display the merit list and release the AILET counselling call letters in online mode only.

✔️ Will there be any counselling for AILET PhD admission?

No. Unlike the B.A. LLB and LLM admission, the admission into PhD programme will require the candidates to follow certain selection criteria which will include a research proposal other than the All India Law Entrance Test.

✔️ What will happen to the tuition fee remitted by me if I fail to join after the admission to a course at NLU Delhi?

NLU Delhi will refund 75% of the tuition fee in case a candidate is not able to join the course after the admission. NLU Delhi will utilise the non-refundable tuition fee for providing the financial assistance to deserving students who could not pay the tuition fee on account of their economically weak background.

NLU Delhi has not specified the number of rounds to be conducted during AILET counselling 2020. However, candidates will find a waitlist (if the seats remain vacant) along with the merit list. NLU Delhi will offer vacant seats to the candidates whose names appear in the waitlist.
