New Delhi, 6 April 2022 – Students interested in taking admission into the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) can now make it into IITs without having to go through the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced. Although this can be done only for a few courses, it is a breath of fresh air for those students who are looking to make it into IITs but cannot do so due to tough competition.

There are three ways aspirants can secure admission into the Indian Institutes of Technology.

These are:

  • Through Qualifier Processes
  • Through Olympiads

IIT Admissions Through Qualifier Processes

The first way to get admission into IIT is through qualifier processes. Courses like IIT Madras BSc in Programming & Data Science and IIT Guwahati Master’s in Liberal Arts are offered directly to students.

One only needs to fulfil basic eligibility and appear for the courses’ respective qualifier processes – which are not as difficult as JEE Advanced and can be completed with ease.

Note: The courses with qualifier processes are available for aspirants ranging from Class 12 students, college students, and even to working professionals taking a career break.

IIT Admissions Through Olympiads

Students who are appearing for – or have appeared in – international Olympiads can also get direct admissions in IITs. The candidates get admissions on the basis of their performance in these international olympiads. For example, IIT Bombay in 2018 allowed candidates who qualified for the International Mathematics Olympiad to apply for its BSc Mathematics course directly.

In 2021, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur has also announced that students who qualify for globally acclaimed Olympiads in various subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics will be eligible to apply for direct admission into the institute.

IIT Admissions Through Certificate Courses

There are also several short and long-term certificate courses that do not require a candidate to clear JEE Advanced to get admission. These courses are available online as well as on an offline basis (physical classes). Students only need to fulfil the basic eligibility criteria and they can get admission into IITs.
