Indian Education Society Ordered by FRC to Refund 15% of School Fees

New Delhi, November 29, 2023 – Refund 15% School Fees – The Divisional Fee Regulatory Committee (DFRC) has ordered the Indian Education Society (IES) to refund 15% of the total school fees charged in the 2021-22 academic session.

 

Official sources have informed that a complaint was filed by the parents of the students studying at Orion School, Dadar, which is run by the Indian Education Society.

Refund 15% School Fees – Background

  • Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Supreme Court and the Maharashtra Government notified the Indian Education Society to reduce school fees for the academic year 2021-22.
  • Based on this judgement, the parents approached the committee, as there were no concessions made on the school fees.
  • IES further mentioned that the school fee has not been increased since 2018.
  • The parents were asked to pay the same fees as they paid in the 2019-20 academic year. This was approved by the Parents Teachers Association’s Executive Committee (PT-AEC).
  • However, the General Resolution (GR) was not implemented on the schools that declared their session fees before the judgement dated May 8, 2020.
  • The General Resolution (GR) was also not applicable to schools with fixed fees.

  • In response to the complaint, the school authority has pointed out that less than 25% of the total number of parents in the school has signed the complaint.
  • To validate the complaint, the committee is required to take unauthorized steps which will also disprove a genuine process of proceeding.
  • In its reply, The Indian Education Society mentioned implementing the Government Resolution (GR) and keeping the school fee the same as it was in the academic year of 2019 and 2020.
  • In the Government Resolution (GR), all schools were requested not to increase session fees for the academic session of 2021 to 2022.
