IBPS RRB Cut Off – Normalization of Scores
The difficulty level of IBPS RRB question papers differs for each session. The exam conducting authority of IBPS follows a normalisation process to maintain fairness and equality among all the test takers. This procedure is established for comparing the score and merit of the test takers who have taken the test in different sessions.
The process of normalisation of marks:
IBPS uses the equi-percentile technique to get the corrected scores secured by the candidates in the Prelims and Mains exam. This is done via the normalization process for calculating IBPS RRB Result 2021.
Scores up to two decimal points are usually taken to calculate the marks.
The obtained score will be considered to shortlist candidates for next round (Mains and Interview). IBPS has adopted a prefixed formula to calculate the normalized marks. This formula is also known as Normalized Marks Calculator.
For example –
- A candidate gets 142 marks in the 1st shift.
- The average marks of top 0.1% candidates in all sessions = 191
- Sum of Mean and SD (cut-off) for all sessions = 131
- Average marks of top 0.1% candidates in that day’s 1st shift = 185
- Sum of Mean and SD (which is basically a cut-off) for that particular day’s 1st session = 129
- Normalized marks = (60/56) (13) + 129 = 142.92

IBPS RRB Cut Off – Calculating Total Weighted Score (Online Single Exam)
Online Single exam is a one-time exam that candidates appearing for the posts of Officer Scale-II and III are required to take. This examination is not applicable for Officer Scale-I and Assistant Officers. This exam is an alternative to the Prelims exam. As per the official IBPS RRB notification, the shortlisted candidates from the Single exam will directly appear for the Interview round without going through the Main exam.
IBPS follows certain formulas to calculate the total weighted scores (TWS). Candidates will find the calculation for Officer Scale-II and III papers separately:
Scores gained in Professional Knowledge x 1.00 + Reasoning x 1.00 + English/ Hindi language x 0.50 + Financial Awareness x 1.00 + Quantitative Aptitude and Data Interpretation x 1.00 + Computer Knowledge x 0.50 = TOTAL WEIGHTED SCORE
For Officer Scale-II (GBO) and Officer Scale-III
Scores gained in Reasoning x 1.25 + English/ Hindi language x 1.00 + Financial Awareness x 1.00 + Quantitative Aptitude and Data Interpretation x 1.25 + Computer Knowledge x 0.50 = TOTAL WEIGHTED SCORE
IBPS RRB Cut Offs applied on Total Weighted Score (Post-Wise)
The application of the cut off formula on total weighted scores helps IBPS to shortlist candidates for the interview process (applicable for Officer Scale-II and III).
