Highlights of JEE Main Counselling Process 2021

JEE Main counselling is conducted by 3 main bodies –  JoSAA, CSAB NEUT and CSAB SFTI. The counselling process of both CSAB NEUT and CSAB SFTI is similar to that of JoSAA.

1. JoSAA is responsible for the counselling process of both the JEE Main and JEE Advanced eligible candidates. JoSAA is the common portal for admission into any of the 106 NITs, IIITs, IITs, GFTIs.

2. After JoSSA, the next important seat allocation board that the students must know about is the CSAB or the Centralized Seat Allotment Board. The CSAB conducts admissions into NIT, IIIT and CFTIs for candidates who have a valid JEE Main scorecard but are not eligible for the JoSSA counselling.

The CSAB 2021 will be conducted separately for 3 channels:

1. CSAB NEUT (Centralized Seat Allotment Board for North Eastern States and Union Territories) is a counselling process specifically meant for the supernumerary (vacant) seats in the 12 North-Eastern states and Union territories including:

Assam

Meghalaya

Sikkim

Dadra & Nagar Haveli

Arunachal Pradesh

Mizoram

Tripura

Daman & Diu

Manipur

Nagaland

Andaman & Nicobar Islands

Lakshadweep

Note: CSAB NEUT counselling process is now expected to commence in the 2nd or 3rd week of July 2021 (tentatively).

2. CSAB SFTI is conducted by the Centre Seat Allocation board specifically for the 18 SFTIs (Self Financing Technical Institutes) throughout the country. The CSAB SFTI conducts the seat allocation process based on the candidate’s order of preference based on their JEE Main All India Rank (AIR) in Paper I and Paper 2 respectively.

3. CSAB UT is conducted to provide admissions to those candidates who have the state eligibility of Union Territories (Daman & Diu, Lakshadweep & Khandvi, Andaman & Nicobar, Dadar and Nagar Haveli).

Note: The application form of CSAB UT 2021 is expected to be available from the second week of August (tentative).

Note: Candidates are advised to be careful while locking their choices as these cannot be changed after submission.

Step 3 – Seat Allotment and Announcement of Rank List

There are several factors based on which JoSAA allocates the highest possible seat to the candidates as per their selection.

  • Category of Candidates (General, OBC-NCL, ST, etc.).
  • All India Rank (AIR) in JEE Main 2021 Rank Lists.
  • Availability of seats under different seat categories/ seat quotas for which candidates are eligible.
  • According to the order of choices that the candidates have opted for institutions and programs

Note – Candidates will get the seat allotment letter via SMS/E-mail from JoSAA a few days after filling their choice. They are advised to download the seat allotment letter and keep it safe for future use.

Step 4 – Payment of Seat Acceptance Fee

However, if the candidate withdraws the seat and reports at the allotted centre before the end of the final JEE Main counselling round, the counselling fee would be refunded back.

Step 5 – Online Document Verification

The documents of the candidates have to be verified at the help centres. Candidates have to carry their original documents and report to the allotted JoSAA 2021 reporting centre. 5. Different reporting centres will be available for NITs, IIITs, GFTIs and IITs
  6. In case of change in the seat allotment of a candidate from the NIT+ system to IITs or the other way round, then the candidate will have to report to the changed institute. Failing to report will result in the cancellation of the allotted seat

JEE Main Counselling 2021 – Seat Allocation Process

  1. Once the allotted seat is rejected, candidates will not be allowed to participate in further rounds of counselling.
  2. The Seat Allotment Process is purely based on merit. It is based on the choices made by candidates in JoSAA and CSAB too.
  3. After the JoSAA seat allotment process is complete, CSAB counselling will commence.
