New Delhi, 26 July 2021 – The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) released the revised term-wise syllabus for classes 9 to 12 on Saturday, 24th July 2021. The term-wise syllabus would be applicable from this academic session onwards. The detailed syllabus of all the subjects is available on the official CBSE website, i.e., www.cbseacademic.nic.in. In addition to the release of the rationalized syllabus, CBSE has also released the marking scheme based on the exam format.
CBSE 2021-22 – Rationalised Syllabus in Detail
Earlier, the board had announced a new scheme, which would be applicable for classes 10 and 12 examinations for the academic year 2021-2022.
The newly released syllabus format for Classes 9, 10, 11 and 12 is expected to help students who were worried about getting burdened with more syllabus and lengthier exams.
Two Distinct Term Examinations –
- Instead of having only one board examination at the end of every year, the upcoming academic session will be divided into two terms – Term 1 and Term 2.
- As per the official updates, Term I will be based on 50% CBSE Syllabus 2021-22 and Term II will be based on the rest of the 50% CBSE Syllabus 2021-22.
Rationalized Syllabus –
- The syllabus has also been rationalized.
- Apart from the course content, the syllabus also mentions the criteria of assessment of students based on the two board exams policy.
Internal Assessment Policy –
- The schools would ensure that internal assessment is reliable, fair, and transparent for all students.
- The internal assessment/practical/project work assessed by teachers will be based on evidence of the student’s performance throughout the academic session.
CBSE 2021-22 Examinations – Details of Term 1 Exams for Classes 9-12
- The Term I exams would be held in November-December 2021, with an exam duration of 90-minutes.
- Moreover, Term I exams will be purely based on the MCQ (Multiple-Choice-Questions) format.
- CBSE will send the question papers along with the marking schemes to the schools. The schools will be conducting the exams under the supervision of external examiners and observers. The final results will be sent to the board thereafter.
CBSE 2021-22 Examinations – Details of Term 1 Exams for Classes 9-12
- Term II exams will be either based on subjective questions or MCQ-format, depending on the COVID-19 situation in the country at that time.
- Besides the course content, the syllabus for Term II exams mentions the criteria of assessment of students based on the two board exams policy.
- Term II exams are to be held in March-April 2022 at exam centres fixed by the board.
- The exam duration of Term II will be of 120 minutes. However, in case of an unfavourable situation (spiking COVID cases), Term II exams could also be conducted in a 90-minute MCQ format, just like Term I papers.
