Karnataka PU Students to Get Free JEE, NEET Coaching

New Delhi, 6 June 2022 – The Government of Karnataka has decided to provide free JEE and NEET coaching to PU II (Class 12) students in the state. The free coaching will be offered in such a way that students will be able to prepare for these competitive examinations along with their academic studies and will not have to take separate coaching for preparation. 

The state government will do this under the Chief Minister Vidhyarthi Margadarshini programme and is yet to decide whether the education department will develop its own content and conduct coaching in-house from the department itself or it will tie up with other institutions to provide the coaching.

Chief Minister Vidhyarthi Margadarshini Programme Details for Karnataka PU Students 

  • The scheme was announced by Karnataka Chief Minister, Basavaraj Bommai, during the 2022-23 Karnataka Budget on March 4, 2022.
  • As per the Chief Minister Vidhyarthi Margadarshini Programme, students studying in PU II in Karnataka will get free coaching to prepare for JEE and NEET entrance exams simultaneously with their academics.
  • The coaching will most likely be provided through online classes. However, the government is yet to decide whether the education department will develop its own content and conduct coaching in-house or whether it will tie up with outside institutions for conducting the classes.
  • Although the latest announcement only talks about free JEE and NEET coaching, the scheme plans to integrate other coaching exams under it as well.
  • Through this programme, students can prepare for admission entrance exams as well as government recruitment examinations.  
  • These exams include the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC), Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), Staff Selection Commission (SSC), Banking, Railway recruitment exams, Combined Defence Services Examination (CDS), among others. 

Note: The current plan for students in PU II getting free NEET and JEE coaching along with their academic classes was decided on June 5 when the Principal Secretary of the Education Department – S Selvakumar – met with PU Director R Ramachandran and other officials.

Other Announcements Made to Benefit Karnataka PU Students 

  • A grant of Rs. 100 crore will be allocated for providing government high schools and pre-university colleges with high-quality furniture.
  • Digital libraries will be established across the state.
  • Laboratory facilities will be offered at a cost of Rs. 15 crores.
  • A total of 20 schools will be selected and developed as ‘Bengaluru Public Schools’. To do so, a budget of Rs. 89 crores has been stipulated.
