New Delhi, September 14, 2022, JEE Advanced – JoSAA Counselling: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay is collaborating with its gender cell to launch a virtual counselling session for female students (along with their parents) who have qualified for the JEE Advanced 2022. The counselling has been launched keeping in mind the high admission dropout rates of female candidates after securing a seat in various Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).Β
The counselling will take place online through the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA). JoSAA is an agency launched by the Ministry of Education to ensure the smooth admission process and allocation of seats in various government institutes.
Talking about the concerned issue, the director of IIT Bombay – Subhasis Chaudhuri, said, “Sometimes it has been observed that girlsβeven after getting an IIT seatβdo not join for reasons such as the institute being far away from their home. Parents think it is better to go to an institute that is nearby. We want to change this. If a Mumbai girl, for example, gets a seat in IIT Kharagpur, she should take it.”Β
The virtual counselling session will be held in collaboration with the gender cell of IIT Bombay.
Chaudhuri further added, “We will be sharing a link with all the girls in order to have a talk with them. If they qualify and bag a seat in any IIT, they should take it. In fact, girls also have supernumerary seats, which is to their advantage. They should make use of it.”Β
He also noted that there has been a significant rise in the number of female students in the top 100 JEE Advanced qualified students list this year. Last year, there was one final candidate. This year, there are seven female candidates who have qualified for the IIT.
