University of Delhi is expected to begin admissions to its undergraduate courses by July-end. Talking to a media source, Chairperson of DU’s Admissions Rajeev Gupta said, “The registration process for undergraduate admissions is likely to begin from the third or fourth week of July. It will not begin on July 15 as the results will not be out by then. The Supreme Court has given a deadline of July 31 for the results to be declared so the process will also begin a few days before the results are announced.”
In addition, the application process for postgraduate and PhD programmes at Delhi University is likely to begin within the next 10 days.
Delhi University UG Admissions 2021 – Points to Note
1. Online admission process – Considering the ongoing COVID-19 situation, the Delhi University admissions would be conducted digitally this year as well.
2. Final decision on CUCET’s role in DU admissions pending – There are speculations that Delhi University would be giving equal weightage to Central Universities Common Entrance Test or CUCET and Class 12 board examination marks for admissions to its UG courses.
At present, talks on the CUCET 2021 exam are ongoing. With Dharmendra Pradhan being appointed as the new Union Education Minister, there are expectations of clarity on this issue soon.
However, as of now, merit-based admissions in Delhi University are expected to continue this year, given the current updates.
3. Increase in applications – Delhi University is expecting to receive a record number of registrations this year again. Since foreign university aspirants had to cancel or delay their plans, more students are likely to apply in Indian universities in 2021. Likewise, in 2020, Delhi University had received an additional 1 lakh registrations.
4. First year DU classes in 2021 to begin from November – Classes for the first batch of 2021 in Delhi University are expected to commence in November. This delay has been caused by the ongoing COVID-19 situation in the country.
