WB Board Class 10, 12 Exams Postponed – New Dates to be Announced Later

New Delhi, 17 May 2021: The West Bengal Council of Higher Education (WBCHSE) has decided to postpone the state board examinations for Class 10 and 12 due to the second wave of COVID-19.

The Chief Secretary of the West Bengal Education department, Alapan Bandyopadhyay, announced the postponement of examinations at a press conference on Sunday. Further, he stated that the decision has been taken due to the surge of COVID 19 cases and a 15-day lockdown (till May 30) in the state. He also added that it is really difficult to make arrangements for such a large number of students in the middle of the COVID-19 lockdown. 

Students must note that the revised date for the exams is expected to be announced later after careful consideration by the authorities of the state board. As per officials, the students of West Bengal will be notified about the board exam schedule at least two weeks in advance.

The West Bengal board exams have already been deferred twice due to the surge in COVID-19. Earlier, the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) had postponed the Class 10 exams to June 1 and later to June 15. Also, the council had announced that the Class 12 exams would start from June 15 at home centres. However, both the exams have been put on hold. 

The government has closed all the schools, colleges, and other educational institutions to curb coronavirus spread. Around 10 lakh students are expected to appear for West Bengal Class 10 board examinations in 2021.
