New Delhi, 21 April 2022: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has made changes to the tie-breaker policy of the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2022. As per the recent JEE Main information brochure, age and application numbers in ascending order will be deemed considered for the tie-breaker policy in the JEE Main 2022 examination.
Previously, the agency had removed the age factor. However, this year onwards, it has been reintroduced as a criterion for breaking ties. The JEE Main exam for session 1 is to be held from 20 June 2022 to 29 June 2022, whereas the exam for session 2 will be conducted from 21 July 2022 to 30 July 2022, respectively.
JEE Main 2022 Tie-Breaking Policy: Changes
- In JEE Main 2022, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has reinstated the age element as one of the factors for breaking ties. The NTA used to do this until 2020, but last year it removed the age condition from the tie-breaking policy.
- The National Testing Agency (NTA) has made another change to the JEE Main tie-breaking criteria, which now prioritises applicant numbers in ascending order. This means that if two candidates score the same in the admission exams and their ties cannot be broken through other means, the individual who applied for the exam first will be given priority in the merit list. The agency will determine the ranks based on two criteria: the age limit and the number of applications received.
JEE Main 2022 Tie-Breaking Policy: Details
To avoid a tie in JEE Main 2022, the NTA calculates both applicants’ scores up to seven decimal points. NTA also utilises a tie-breaking policy if a tie remains even after computing scores up to seven decimal points.
