UPTET Eligibility Criteria – Age, Educational Qualification and More

UPTET eligibility criteria is one of the main aspects that candidates must carefully go through before submitting their UPTET exam application form. The eligibility of aspirants is determined by factors like age limit, education qualification, minimum percentage scored in board exams and graduation, among others. 

UPTET or Uttar Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test is a state-level examination that is conducted annually to recruit primary and upper primary class school teachers in Uttar Pradesh. Every year, lakhs of aspirants apply for this teachers’ eligibility test.

Important Updates

  • As per the latest announcement by NCTE (National Council for Teacher Education), the UPTET certificate will remain valid for a lifetime. Previously, after the declaration of the result, the validity period for UPTET was for 5 years. Now, candidates can appear for the exam once and use their respective UPTET certificate for a lifetime.
  • Candidates with Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed) from NIOS (National Institute of Open Schooling) might not be eligible for UPTET 2021
  • UPTET eligibility certificates 2019 are likely to be issued to all qualified candidates from 11th January 2021.
  • The Secretary, Exam Regulatory Authority, Uttar Pradesh has proposed to conduct the UPTET 2020-21 exam on 28th February 2021 (tentative date).

UPTET Eligibility Criteria 2021 – Exam Notification

The official UPTET notification 2021 is likely to be released at the end of February or the beginning of March 2021. Whenever the notification releases, UPBEB (Uttar Pradesh Basic Education Board) would announce the news on its official website

The UPTET notification will be released in the form of a PDF and will contain vital exam-related information such as dates, the application process, exam pattern, syllabus, result declaration, eligibility criteria, etc.

*Candidates can pay the application fee in online or offline mode. The UPTET application fee for the General category is Rs 600 and SC/ST category is Rs 400

**Candidates will be able to raise objections against the preliminary answer key (if any) by paying a fee of Rs 500 per question

***Based on the objections received against the preliminary key, the final UPTET 2020 answer key will be released on the official website

UPTET Eligibility Criteria 2021 – Nationality

As per UPTET eligibility criteria, a candidate should either be an Indian citizen or a citizen of the countries highlighted below. 

Apart from being a citizen of India, the applying candidate could be either a:

  1. A subject of Bhutan
  2. OR a Tibetan Refugee who came over to India before 1st January 1962 intending to settle in India permanently
  3. OR a subject of Nepal

UPTET Eligibility Criteria 2021 – Age Limit

Before applying for any one of the UPTET posts [Primary Teacher (Classes 1 to 5) or Upper Primary Teacher (Classes 6 to 8)], candidates must ensure that they fulfill the important age limit UPTET eligibility criteria. The Uttar Pradesh Basic Education Board or UPBEB has set an upper and lower age limit for candidates who wish to appear for the UPTET exam 2021.

Candidates should remember that the upper and lower age limits for both the posts are the same. However, the age criteria varies as per the candidate’s category.

UPTET Eligibility Criteria 2021 – Educational Qualification

  1. Candidates scoring 60% in UPTET 2020 will be considered qualified for UPTET Recruitment.
  2. Reserved category candidates are required to score only 55% marks to qualify.

UPTET Eligibility Criteria 2021 – Educational Qualification for Primary Teacher (Class 1st – 5th)

The applicants need to satisfy any one of the criteria mentioned below – 

Senior Secondary with minimum 50% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of 2 years Diploma in Education (Special Education)

OR

Senior Secondary with minimum 50% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of 4 years Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed)

OR

Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with minimum 50% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of 2 years Diploma in Elementary Education

OR

Graduation and passed or appearing in the final year of two-year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known)

OR

Graduation (or its equivalent) and passed or appearing in the final year of 2- year Diploma in Education (Special Education)

OR

Graduation with at least 50 % marks and passed or appearing in final year B.Ed. (by whatever name known)

OR

Graduation (or its equivalent) and passed or appearing in the final year of 2- year BTC- Urdu (Special Education) from UP/ Diploma in Teaching and Moililam –a- Urdu (मोअलिल्मउर्दू) From Aligarh Muslim University

UPTET Eligibility Criteria 2021 – Educational Qualification for Upper Primary Teacher (Class 6th to 8th)

The applicants need to satisfy any one of the criteria mentioned below – 

Senior Secondary (10+2) (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of 4- year B. A/B.Sc.Ed or B.A.Ed./B.Sc.Ed.

OR

Senior Secondary (10+2) (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of 4- year Bachelor in Elementary Education (B.El.Ed)

OR

Graduation with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in B.Ed. (Special Education)

OR

Graduation with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in Bachelor in Education (B.Ed.)

OR

Graduation with at least 45% marks and passed or appearing in 2- year Bachelor in Education (B.Ed.), in line with the NCTE (Recognition Norms and Procedure) Regulations issued from time to time in this regard.

OR

Graduation and passed or appearing in the final year of 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known)

UPTET Eligibility Criteria 2021 – Educational Qualification for Primary Urdu Teacher (Classes 1st to 5th)

Candidates preparing for the Primary Urdu Teacher exam need to satisfy any one of the criteria mentioned below – 

Bachelor’s or Post Graduate Degree with Urdu as main subject from recognized university and B.T.C from NCTE approved institute in Uttar Pradesh

OR

BCT (2 years) in Urdu training in Uttar Pradesh

OR

Moallim-E-Urdu Degree holder before 11-08-1997

UPTET Eligibility Criteria 2021 – Educational Qualification for Upper-Primary Urdu Teacher (Classes 6th to 8th)

Candidates preparing for the Upper Primary Urdu Teacher (Class 6th to 8th) exam need to satisfy any one of the criteria mentioned below – 

Bachelor’s or Post Graduate Degree with Urdu as main subject from recognized university and B.T.C from NCTE approved institute in Uttar Pradesh

OR

B. Ed/B.Ed. special Degree from NCTE/RCI approved institute 

OR

BCT (2 years) in Urdu training in Uttar Pradesh 

OR

Moallim-E-Urdu Degree holder before 11-08-1997

UPTET Eligibility Criteria 2021 – Educational Qualification for Primary Sanskrit and English Teacher (Classes 1st to 5th)

Candidates preparing for the Primary Sanskrit and English Teacher exam need to satisfy any one of the criteria mentioned below – 

Bachelor’s degree with Sanskrit/English as the main subject and B.C.T from NCTE (National Council for Teacher Education) approved institute

OR

Diploma (D.Ed.) (2 year) from N.C.T.E/ Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) approved institute

OR

2 year C.T (Nursery)/ Nursery Teacher Training (NTT) from NCTE approved institute

UPTET Eligibility Criteria 2021 – Educational Qualification for Upper-Primary Sanskrit and English Teacher (Classes 6th to 8th)

For the candidates preparing for the Upper Primary Sanskrit and English Teacher (Class 6th to 8th) exam, the eligibility criteria comprise of the following:

Bachelor’s degree with Sanskrit/English as the main subject and minimum 50% marks and B.Ed. / B.Ed. special degree from NCTE/RCI approved institute

OR

Bachelor’s degree with Sanskrit/English as the main subject AND B.T.C./ C.T. (Nursery) from a NCTE approved institute

OR

Bachelor’s degree with Sanskrit/English as the main subject and minimum 45% marks AND B.Ed. Degree

UPTET Eligibility Certificate 2021

  1. Candidates possessing a Diploma from NCTE/RCI will be given preference
  2. Candidates who score 60% (90/150 marks) of the total marks would be considered qualified for UPTET recruitment.
  3. Reserved category candidates are required to score only 55% marks (83/150 marks) to qualify.
  4. Candidates who qualify for the exam would be getting the UPTET eligibility certificate, which will be valid for 5 years
  5. Eligibility Certificate can be taken from the district education board by providing a copy of the UPTET Admit Card and Photo Identity Card

Note – Candidates who want to acquire a second copy of the UPTET Eligibility Certificate can avail the same by paying fees of Rs. 300 through DD (Demand Draft) payable at:

Who is NOT Eligible for UPTET 2021?

The candidates who are not eligible for the UPTET examination are the ones who:

  • Did not secure 50% marks in 12th class or equivalent
  • Are not Indian citizens nor do not belong to the countries, as specified above in the article
  • Have not completed their graduation

UPTET Eligibility Criteria – Important Instructions of 2021

UPTET aspirants must know that there are certain aspects and instructions underlined by UPBEB that candidates must follow – 

  1. Candidates who possess a diploma from NCTE/RCI will be given preference
  2. Applicants who have a diploma in special education or D.Ed. (Diploma in Education) are provided training for 6 months
  3. SC/ST/OBC candidates are provided relaxation of 5% in marks

UPTET Eligibility Criteria 2021 – FAQs

I completed my B.Ed. from a recognized University. Am I eligible for UPTET 2021?

As per UPTET eligibility criteria, If the candidate has secured 50% marks in Class 12 and has completed 4 years’ Diploma in B.EL.ED., he/she can apply for UPTET 2021.

What is the marks relaxation provided for SC/ST/OBC candidates for UPTET 2021?

As per UPTET eligibility criteria, SC/ST/OBC candidates are provided relaxation of 5% in total percentage, i.e., they need to score 55% ((83/150 marks) in total.

What is the age limit for UPTET 2021 recruitment?

According to UPTET eligibility criteria, the candidates who wish to appear for the exam must comply with the following age criteria

  1. UR/General - 18 to 35 years
  2. OBC - 18 to 38 years
  3. SC/ST - 18 to 40 years
  4. PH (physically handicapped) - 18 to 45 years
