UP Police Recruitment – Sportspersons Can Now Become BDO, DSP, Tehsildar

September 28, 2022, Lucknow, UP Police Recruitment: Sportspersons, both men and women, from Uttar Pradesh who win medals in international sporting events and competitions such as the Paralympics, Commonwealth Games, Asian Games, Olympics, or World Cup will be recruited as gazetted officers such as Block Development Officers (BDOs) and Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) in the state government. The proposal was accepted by the State Cabinet on September 27, 2022.ย 

In January 2022, the Cabinet approved a plan that would allow athletes to be recruited directly for Group B jobs. Under this scheme, 24 Group B vacancies will be made available and offered directly to athletes based on their performance. To carry out direct recruitment for these positions, Lok Sewa Aayog has culled up to 24 vacancies from nine departments.ย 

According to the Cabinet Minister, Suresh Khanna, a committee led by the Chief Secretary would choose the candidates for selection. The UP Public Service Commission will be asked for permission to exclude these 24 positions from its jurisdiction, and necessary laws will be passed to establish new jurisdictions.ย 

Mr. Khanna further added, “The choice has been made to support sports in the state and to honour people who excel in them. From September 1, 2020, onward, those who have won will be eligible for this scheme.”

The departments under which these selections will be made are the Department of Basic Education, Home Department, Panchayati Raj, Secondary Education Department, Department of Youth Welfare, Transport Department, Revenue Department, Forest Department, and Rural Development Department.ย 

The posts available under this recruitment are Block Development Officer, Assistant Deputy Inspector of Schools, District Basic Education Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police, District Panchayati Raj Officer, District Youth Welfare Officer, Range Officer, Passenger Tax/Goods Tax Officer, and Rajya Tehsildar.
