Skill Training in Uttar Pradesh: In order to prepare the youth of Uttar Pradesh in handling new technologies and equipping them with vocational skills, the Government of Uttar Pradesh has started offering training in 12 courses pertaining to 7 different trades as part of the ‘New Age Course’ initiative. This skill training in Uttar Pradesh will be taking place in 29 government Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) of the state for a total of 7,938 candidates, as announced by Mr. Kapil Dev Agarwal, Minister of State for Vocational Education and Skill Development, during the inauguration of a training session at the regional Staff Training and Research Centre, Aliganj.

1. Ongoing Skill-Based Training under the ‘New Age Course’ –
- During the inauguration, Agarwal further stated that the training for 4 courses (out of a total of 12) in 3 sectors, including drone courses, had begun in 15 state-run ITIs through which 3240 trainees would be trained annually.
- The instructors at these institutes will also reportedly receive training weekly.
2. Drone Skill Training – Under the ‘New Age Course’ drone training, courses will be conducted for the profiles and fields like:
- Drone Service Technician
- Drone Manufacturing and Assembly Technician
- Drone Operator
The candidates who will receive skill training in drone operations shall be inducted into the fields of electronics, agriculture, aviation, and aerospace. Talking about this subject, Agarwal said, “Drone service technician, drone manufacturing and assembly technician, and drone operator courses will be conducted under electronics, agriculture, aviation, and aerospace sectors. Training is being conducted in three government ITIs in Bareilly, Meerut, and Gorakhpur.”
He further asserted that one of the main objectives of the government is to make the youth of Uttar Pradesh employable and independent through the promotion of skill development (through short-term courses). He also added that young people must be equipped with a set of skills that will allow them to both get and create jobs.

Candidates must be between the ages of 14 and 50, registered with the BOCW welfare board, and have dependent family members, including a wife, dependent unmarried daughter, and son under the age of 21.
- State Skill Development Fund (SSDF): UP State Top-up fund is created to meet additional fund requirements (top-up) for different integrated schemes. It is also used for training purposes under specific conditions and for a non-priority category of candidates. Candidates must be residents of Uttar Pradesh and must be aged between 14 and 35 years.
- Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY): This is a flagship scheme of the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE) implemented by the National Skill Development Corporation. The goal of this Skill Certification Scheme is to enable a large number of Indian youth to take up industry-relevant skill training that will help them to secure a better livelihood.
- Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GK): This is a central scheme uniquely focused on rural youth between the ages of 15 and 35 years from poor families. As a part of the Skill India campaign, it plays an instrumental role in supporting the social and economic programs of the government like the Make In India, Digital India, Smart Cities, and Start-Up India, Stand-Up India campaigns.
- Multi-sectoral Development Programme (MSDP): This scheme is focused on skilling youth from minority communities. Minority candidates (Muslims, Sikh, Jain, Parsee, Christian, and Buddhist) who are in the age group of 14–35 years and reside in either of the 137 blocks and 17 town areas of 46 selected districts of UP are eligible for this programme.
- Project Praveen: This project is aimed at equipping school students with skills required for jobs. Under the project skill training will be provided to more than 21,000 students of classes 9 to 12 studying in higher secondary schools in the current academic session.
