West Bengal 10th and 12th Board Exams Cancelled For This Year; Latest Updates Here

New Delhi, 8 June 2021 – The West Bengal Government has cancelled both Madhyamik (class 10) and Uchha Madhyamik (class 12) examinations this year. West Bengal Chief Minister (CM) Mamata Banerjee announced on Monday (7th June) that both the board exams have been cancelled amid the second wave of COVID-19 to protect the students. 

While addressing the media, Banerjee said that the state government has changed its previous plan to hold the WB board examinations for Class 10 and 12 in July and August 2021 due to the thousands of stressed feedback messages received from parents and students. 

The marks evaluation process to declare the final WB board results 2021 is still to be finalized, and the decision regarding that would be taken within 7 days.

  • West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee announced that the state government will form an expert committee in order to finalize a precise evaluation method and release the final result of secondary and higher secondary students. 
  • During yesterday’s meeting, Banerjee directed the Education Secretary to ensure that the expert committee must comprise doctors and academicians
  • Besides, they must come up with the evaluation criteria within a week
  • She also asked the officials to stay updated on the assessment methods adopted by other boards.

WB 10th and 12th Board Exam 2021 – What Happened Earlier?

On Thursday evening, 27th May 2021, the West Bengal Government announced that the West Bengal state board exams for Classes 10 and 12 will be conducted in July and August 2021. Banerjee, in a press meet, announced that the WB Board Class 12 exams will tentatively be held in the last week of July whereas Class 10 board exams will most likely be conducted in the second week of August.

She enunciated that only examinations of the compulsory subjects will be taken. In such a case, the schools would have had to give marks for the additional subjects based on the internal assessment.

In a series of tweets, the West Bengal CM on 6th June 2021 said, “Our children’s future is my greatest priority. To this regard, we have formed an expert committee to decide over holding the Class 10th and 12th board exams in 2021.”

Furthermore, she had released a notice on forming an expert committee alongside the above tweet in her official Twitter handle.

She had requested people to send feedback on the decision of holding the board exams on the following e-mail addresses by June 7th, 2021, 2 PM:

At least 83% of the 34,000 people who sent their feedback pointed out that conducting the board exams in schools wasn’t a wise idea amid the pandemic. So, the decision of cancelling the examination was finally implemented by the West Bengal Government.
