KVPY Result – KVPY is a top scholarship program conducted by India’s premier institute Indian Institute of Science (IISc) every year. KVPY Result – What is KVPY all about?
The “Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana” (KVPY) is a program started a decade ago by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India to encourage students who are studying Basic Sciences to take up research career in Science. The aim of the program is to identify and encourage talented and motivated students to pursue a career in research. A fellowship and contingency grant is provided to the selected KVPY fellows up to the pre PhD level or for 5 years. In addition, summer camps for the KVPY fellows are organized in prestigious research and educational institutions in the country.
Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore organizes and runs the KVPY program for which it has set up a National Advisory Committee (NAC) to oversee the implementation of the program. There are two other committees – management and core committee apart from NAC to look after the smooth functioning of the program.
The aspirants have to undergo an aptitude test and an interview to become a KVPY scholar. The aptitude test is an objective exam which assesses fundamental knowledge in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics. The aspirants who acquire the scholarship also get other benefits such as access to renowned national laboratories, attending various seminars and summer camps. The scholars pursue research projects under top scientists which help them to flourish in their scientific career.
KVPY Result – How to check KVPY result?
You can find the steps below on how to check the marks obtained in the KVPY results (including both aptitude test and interview). Students can always check the KVPY website for any change in the dates.
- Visit the website to check for the results of the exam.
- If the results are declared a notification will appear on the homepage of the website. Click on the notification to check the results.
- The applicant needs to fill required details such as application number, date of birth etc. The date format is DD-MM-YYYY.
- Click on the “Continue” button after filling up the details.
- The result will be shown and now you can check and download the result.
- It is advised to take the printout of the results for further admission process.

KVPY Result – How to Calculate KVPY Final Result?
The candidates who qualify for the aptitude test and interview are shortlisted for KVPY fellowships. The final results are calculated in the following manner:
FINAL RESULT = 75% of total marks in Aptitude Test + 25% marks in Interview
The candidate can submit a letter mentioning seat number, stream etc before the due date published on the website if they would like to re-evaluate their examination answers. They may need to pay a fee via demand draft in favor of the concerned authorities in this regard.
KVPY Result – Cut-Off
The cut-off for KVPY examination is released in two parts – aptitude test and final cut off. They are released category wise (SA stream, SB stream, and SX stream).

KVPY Result – Selection Process
- The candidates whose KVPY application form is accepted will be called for the aptitude test.
- The aptitude test is conducted online and comprises questions from the four subjects namely, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology.
- The candidates who qualify the aptitude test will be called further for the interview and their knowledge of science and research methods will be examined.
- After the interview, the list of finally selected candidates will be released on the website.
- Overall performance in the aptitude test and interview will be considered for selection of final candidates for the scholarship.
- For KVPY 2020-21, keeping in view the current pandemic situation, no interview was conducted.
KVPY Result – Aptitude test and Interview
The aptitude test is carried out in two parts (Part I and Part II) with four sections in each part. The candidates can attempt any three sections in part I and any two sections in part II. The students are advised to prepare the subjects in which they are well prepared. The aptitude test is conducted in the pen-paper format. The KVPY interview is conducted to examine the knowledge of the candidates in research. The committee will choose the most deserving candidate based on combined performance in the test and interview.
Before the declaration of result, the authority will also release the answer key of the aptitude test. With the help of answer key, candidates can get an idea about the marks they will be going to score in the entrance exam.
KVPY Result – Documents Required for Interview
The candidates need to arrange the following documents before the interview process for the final selection of candidates of KVPY exam.
- Interview call letter
- Attested copy of Marks card (10th Marks card for Stream SA/SX and 12th Marks card for Stream SB)
- Caste certificate for SC/ST candidates issued by the competent authority
- Medical certificate from competent authority in case of physically and visually challenged students
- A self-appraisal form
- Study certificate form
- Teacher recommendation form in a sealed envelope

KVPY Result – Course Streams
KVPY Syllabus includes topics from Class X, XI, and XII depending upon the stream applied for. There are three fields under the examination namely SA, SX or SB. Each paper will have questions from Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology.
SA – The candidates appearing in Class 11th or passed 10th Class with Science and Mathematics subject. They need to secure minimum marks of 75% in the qualifying exam. It is 65% marks for SC/ST/PwD candidates.
SB – The applicants appearing in the 1st year of UG programs in Basic Sciences such as Physics/Chemistry/Mathematics & Biology leading to B.Sc/B.Stat/B.Math/M.Sc degrees. The Class 12th students should secure a minimum of 60% in PCB subjects (50% for SC/ST/PwD students). For 1st year B.Sc./B.Stat/MSc/ candidates, they should secure 60% marks (50% for SC/ST/PwD) before taking up the scholarship.
SX – The candidates should be pursuing Class 12th exam with science streams from a recognized board. The candidates must secure 75% marks in Class 10th with PCB (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) subjects including Mathematics. The reserved category candidates must get 65% marks. For PCB subject students in Class 12th, a minimum of 60% should be obtained and 50% for SC/ST/PwD candidates.
