The Government of Uttar Pradesh has recently decided to cancel the annual examination of students till Class 8 studying in government-run schools. These students will be promoted to the next class on the basis of their performance through the year.
New Delhi, 10 March 2021: As per the latest government announcement, there will be no annual examinations for students up to Class 8 for the second consecutive year. Keeping in view the current pandemic situation, the students of Class 1 to 8 who are studying in government-run schools within the state will be promoted to the next class on the basis of their performance in the internal assessments during the current academic session.
In view of this, the Additional Chief Secretary, Education, Renuka Kumar, said, “We are running a 100 day ‘Prerna Gyanotsav’ program for children up to class 8. The students will be assessed on this and promoted to the next class.”
A similar decision was taken last year when COVID-19 pandemic started due to which the schools were closed. The studies remained affected during the entire session as online classes was the only source of learning left, and students from economically weaker sections of the society studying in government schools could not attend the online classes.
More than 1 crore 83 lakh students studying across 1.5 lakh primary and upper primary schools under BSP (Basic Shiksha Parishad), Uttar Pradesh resumed their learning in a new environment after a gap of 10 months when the schools re-opened. The schools for Classes 6 to 8 were re-opened from February 10 onwards. However, the primary schools for Classes 1 to 5 were re-opened on March 1, 2021.
In the past month, various other states have also come up with a similar solution for students of Class 1 to 8, considering the current pandemic situation. Among the few states include Delhi, Bihar, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh and Punjab.
