PGI Report 2023 – Schools of Rajasthan, Kerala Top in Education

New Delhi, 4 November 2022, PGI Report 2020-21: The Ministry of Education (MoE) has released the Performance Grading Index (PGI) for the year 2020-21 on 3 November 2022. As per the performance report, states including Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Maharashtra, Punjab, Rajasthan, Chandigarh and Gujarat have attained the Level 2 Grading* in the year 2021.

Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Andhra Pradesh have emerged as the top three states in the education sector securing 903, 903, and 669 scores in 2021, respectively.

PGI Report 2020-21 – Methodology

The Performance Grading Index (PGI) provides insights into the conditions of the school education system across India. The index uses secondary data from the National Achievement Survey (NAS) of NCERT, the mid-day meal website, the Public Financial Management System (PFMS), and the Shagun portal to grade the schools on the rank of 1000.

The PGI divides the states and union territories (UT) into ten levels on the basis of Governance Process, Learning Outcomes, Access, Infrastructure & Facilities, and Equity. Level 1 is the highest grade for the schools of states and union territories with more than 950 scores, whereas Level 10 is the lowest grade with less than 650 scores.

The PGI structure comprises a total weightage of 1000 points across 83 indicators, including effective classroom transactions, infrastructure facilities, school safety & child protection, digital learning, and governance process.
