New Delhi, 20 October 2022: The Hon’ble Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, has launched the ‘Mission Schools of Excellence’ initiative in Gujarat’s Adalaj town. As per the project, in the next four to five years, 50,000 classrooms will be built. In addition to this, 1.5 lakh smart classrooms, 20,000 computer labs, and 5,000 Atal Tinkering Labs will be set up.
Under the mission, 20,000 government schools, including 15,000 primary schools and 5,000 secondary schools, have been selected for development by the Gujarat Government.
Mission Schools of Excellence – Aim and Key Features
- To nurture the students of government granted schools and provide them with the best quality of education.
- To strengthen the education infrastructure of Gujarat by setting up new smart classrooms, computer labs, and practical labs.
Key Features
- Importance will be given to the bilingual mode of teaching.
- The meritorious students will be provided extra grants from the Indian Government.
- The pedagogy adopted in these schools will be more experiential, integrated, and toy-based.

A Public-Private Partnership (PPP) is a partnership between the public sector and the private sector for the purpose of completing work on time and within budget. The Government of Gujarat has adopted the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode to set up a larger number of schools through the contribution of capital expenditure from private partners.
The reasons to adopt the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) approach for setting up the schools of excellence are as follows:
- The functional reliability of private organizations enables the early delivery of quality education.
- The private sector is reliable to improve the infrastructure of schools.
- The private sector will bear the cost of project completion and timely delivery of agreed outputs.
Mission Schools of Excellence – Other Initiatives for Gujarat Students
- PM SHRI Schools – The PM SHRI Schools will be developed as Green schools, incorporating environment-friendly aspects like solar panels and LED lights, nutrition gardens with natural farming and awareness generation to adopt a sustainable lifestyle. These schools will provide quality education based on special modules delivered by qualified mentors for co-curricular activities.
- Bal Pravesh – The Gujarat Government scheme, Bal Pravesh, is a part of the Kanya Kelavani campaign. The government aims to enrol over 5,25,000 girls in the state through the Kanya Kelavani drive. The ministers and other government officials encourage parents to enrol their children in schools as education is a prime factor in combating poverty. To ensure and enhance the quality of food. The officials even share the food with children under the ‘Mid Day Meal’ scheme.
