Puducherry’s First Women Engineering College – Puducherry has taken a leap in women’s education with its first engineering college for female scholars. The Women’s Polytechnic College in Lawspet, which had been receiving a very low intake of girl students, has now been upgraded to Women’s Engineering College, Puducherry. The announcement of this exclusive engineering college for women in Puducherry first took place during the last budget session by A Namassivayam, Puducherry Minister for Education.
Female students would be able to apply for engineering admissions 2022 at Puducherry’s First Women Engineering College after its official website is updated.
Engineering Admissions 2022 – All About Puducherry’s First Women Engineering College
- Last year, A Namassivayam had provided an approval to convert the existing Women’s Polytechnic College, located in Lawspet – a prime locality in Puducherry, into Women’s Engineering College, Puducherry from the academic year 2022-23.
- Now that this conversion has taken place as per AICTE norms, Puducherry will soon have its own engineering college, exclusively targeted at educating female students who were previously forced to change their choice of careers or had to travel to far away places due to a dearth of educational opportunities.
- The decision to upgrade the polytechnic college into an engineering college was taken after the number of students in the women’s polytechnic college dropped by a significant number. For instance, while the total intake of the women’s polytechnic college is 190, only 50 students took admission in the last academic year. In total, only around 200 students are studying in the college, when the number should have been at least 570.
- Puducherry’s First Women Engineering College would begin operations under the aegis of a full-fledged technological university named Puducherry Technological University.
- As per news reports, the AICTE-approved co-ed engineering college in Karaikal town of Puducherry – Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Institute of Technology (supervised by the Puducherry government), is also being brought under the Puducherry Technological University (apart from several other private engineering colleges).
- Female applicants who wish to pursue diploma courses can still apply with the Motilal Nehru Government Polytechnic (MNGP) College, a co-ed institution, located next to the recently upgraded all-women engineering college in Lawspet, Puducherry.
