New Delhi, 21 May 2021: The Uttar Pradesh Secondary Education Council (UPMSP) is expected to hold a meeting today to take a final decision on board exam dates of Class 10 and 12.
This decision to hold a meeting was pre-decided by the UP board due to the precarious COVID-19 situation in the state. Most of the boards including CBSE, NIOS, CISCE have cancelled or postponed exams due to the surge in COVID-19 cases across the country.
There are speculations that the UP Board is also likely to announce cancellation of high school or Class 10 board exams like other boards. This speculation grew stronger after the reports surfaced that the UPMSP has asked the schools to submit the pre-board marks. However, no such announcement has been made yet by the board.
Initially, the UP board exams were scheduled to be held from April 24, but due to the clash of dates with the Uttar Pradesh Panchayat Elections, they were postponed to May 8. However, due to an increase in coronavirus cases in the state, the government decided to postpone the exams again.
Students and parents across the state are demanding the UPMSP and state education department to cancel the board exams because they believe that conducting exams amid the second wave of COVID is not fair for the students as well as teachers.
Experts have also suggested that conducting exams in such a situation for over a large number of students is not a feasible option. It has also been said that if the exams are conducted by the board on such a large scale then it will delay the admission process for Class 11 and lead to more pressure on students.
Recently, a ‘fake’ date sheet of UP Class 10 and 12 board exams was getting viral on social media platforms. Usually, the board exam date sheet is released by the Uttar Pradesh Secondary Education Council (UPMSP). In order to prevent false information from doing the rounds, Divya Kant Shukla, UP Board Secretary has clarified that the date sheet circulated was fake and no schedule had been released by the board yet.
“It is informed that the high school (Class 10) and intermediate (Class 12) examinations date sheet of the year 2021 was being circulated on WhatsApp dated 17-5-2021 which says that examinations will be held from 05 June 2021 to 25 June 2021. This timetable is absolutely fake. FIR will be registered against those who have circulated this fake news,” the Board Secretary said.
