UP Board Class 9, 10 Exam Pattern to be Revised, Read Details

New Delhi, 10 May 2022: On 9 May 2022, the Uttar Pradesh government made an announcement that the UP Board Class 9, 10 exam pattern will be revised and that students will be required to take exams based on the new pattern. As per the new pattern, the question paper of the written exam will be divided into two parts: multiple-choice questions and descriptive-type questions.

UP Board Class 9, 10 Exams – Details

  • From 2022 onwards, students will be required to appear in five examinations. 
  • These examinations will be held throughout the academic year as a part of the continuous assessment of students. 
  • Three of these five exams will be based on the multiple-choice question (MCQ) pattern and two will be descriptive-type exams.
  • The written examination of Classes 9 and 10 will have two sections in the question paper.
  •  In the first section, 33% of the questions will be multiple choice and in the second section, 66% of the questions will be descriptive.
  • The first section will consist of multiple-choice questions of 30% marks in the aggregate, which have to be answered on the OMR sheet. 
  • The second section will consist of descriptive questions carrying 70% marks in the aggregate, which have to be answered on the answer sheet.

UP Board Class 9, 10 Exams – Timeline 

  • As per the syllabus, five monthly examinations will be conducted on the basis of multiple-choice questions in the last week of July and November 2022, and in the first week of February 2023.
  • The descriptive monthly examination will be conducted in the last week of August and November 2022. 
  • The practical exam of the half-yearly examination will be held in the last week of September 2022.
  • The half-yearly written examination will be held in the second and third week of October 2022.
  • The marks of the half-yearly examination will be uploaded on the website by the first week of November 2022. 
  • The syllabus for the academic session 2022-23 in all classes will be completed by January 20, 2023. 
  • The pre-board practical examinations of Classes 10 and 12 will be held in the third week of January 2023.
  • The pre-board written examinations of Classes 10 and 12 will be held from February 1 to 15, 2023.

  • There will be a provision for career counseling as per the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
  • To promote digital education, every school will be encouraged to develop its website and every registered student will have her/his own email address.
