Tamil Nadu MBBS Admissions 2021 – 1,450 New MBBS Seats to be Added 

New Delhi, 1 November 2021 – The Tamil Nadu government has announced that it will be adding 1,450 new MBBS seats to its government colleges. This will take the total seat count in the state to 9,100. 

Earlier, the state government received approval for 850 new seats to be added to government medical colleges in Tamil Nadu. Now, the colleges of Krishnagiri, Dindigul, Nagapattinam, and Ariyalur will be provided 150 new seats each, which will result in a total of 1,450 new seats for MBBS courses in the state.

In this regard, Tamil Nadu’s Minister of Health & Family Welfare, Ma Subramanian noted, “We have now got approval for 1,450 MBBS seats in this academic year and are expecting an additional 100 seats in Coimbatore medical college where there are 150 seats already. We expect the approval this year itself. There are now 9,100 MBBS seats in the state of Tamil Nadu, including in government colleges, self-financing colleges, and deemed universities.” 

Tamil Nadu MBBS Admissions 2021 – Admission Process

With the increase in the number of MBBS seats in Tamil Nadu, candidates will have more opportunities to seek and secure admissions in medical colleges. 

Admissions can be secured by appearing for NEET-UG 2021 and going through the counselling process, which will be conducted online for 85% state-available seats and 100% of seats in private colleges. The counselling for the remaining 15% state seats will be conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC). 

During the counselling session, applicants will be required to fill in their preferences (regarding the college they wish to get admission in). Then, admission will be granted based on the candidate’s NEET-UG rank, seat matrix, reservation, and college preferences.

  • Mark sheets of classes 10, 11, and 12
  • Admit card of NEET 2021
  • NEET 2021 result
  • Transfer Certificate 
  • Nativity Certificate (for candidates who have partly completed Class 6 to 12 from outside of Tamil Nadu)
  • Proof of Domicile 
  • Community Certificate
  • Special Category Form (if applicable)
