JEE Main Cutoff 2020 – National Testing Agency will release the cutoff of JEE Main in online mode with the declaration of JEE Main result 2020 (April session) on April 30. JEE Main cutoff can be broadly categorized into two types – qualifying cutoff and admission cutoff. NTA will release the JEE Main qualifying cutoff 2020 whereas the JoSAA authorities will publish the admission cutoff scores. Candidates who obtain the qualifying cutoff marks will be eligible for JEE Advanced 2020. The qualifying cutoff of JEE Main 2020 will be made accessible for the candidates with result of April session. On the other hand, JoSAA will release the admission cutoff lists after each round of seat allotment. Various factors of the exam will determine the JEE Main 2020 cutoff marks. JEE Main Cutoff – Factors that will determine JEE Main Selection

 NTA will consider the following parameters while preparing the qualifying cutoff for JEE Main 2020:

  • Total number of available seats
  • Exam difficulty level
  • Cutoff trends of previous years 
  • Number of candidates who attempted exam
  • Courses applied by the candidates 

Note- If the seat intake capacity of JEE Main Participating Institutes 2020 increases then the cutoff will remain low and vice-versa. The same pattern will be applied on the basis of courses applied by the candidates.

JEE Main Cutoff – Qualifying V/S Admission

Along with the JEE Main Result 2020, NTA will also release the qualifying JEE Main cutoff. The cutoff of JEE Main is classified into qualifying cutoff and admission cutoff. After distinguishing between the qualifying and admission cutoff of JEE Main 2020, candidates can have an idea of score they need to qualify for JEE Advanced or seat allotment in any of the participating institutes of JEE Main 2020.

The expected maximum closing rank has been provided with reference of the previous years’ trends. NITs release the cutoff lists separately for each course. Hence, it’s not necessary that candidates secure admission in their desired courses even after obtaining the closing rank.

Analysis of Previous JEE Main Qualifying Cutoffs 

There is a significant difference between the qualifying cutoff marks of 2019 and 2018 for general category. In 2018, the minimum cutoff marks for common rank list were 74 but the number was increased to 90 in 2019. Many factors cause rise in the minimum cutoff marks to be secured to qualify for JEE Advanced. Last year, it was the first time when JEE Main was conducted twice and hence, the cutoff was comparatively lower than the previous year.

Following are the factors that make JEE Main cutoff volatile

  • Entrance exam getting more difficult each year
  • Increase in the JEE Advanced applicants causing decrease in JEE Main qualifying cutoff 
  • Decrease in the performance of candidates in exam

JEE Main Cutoff – JEE Main Participating Institutes 

National Institute of Technology (NITs), Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIITs) and Centrally Funded Technical Institutes (CFTIs) are the major participating institutes of JEE Main 2020. With valid JEE Main scores, candidates will be able to participate in the admission process of 23 IITs, 31 NITs, 25 IIITs and 28 CFTIs. Apart from the participating institutes of JEE Main 2020, there are various other engineering colleges/ universities that offer admission on the basis of JEE Main ranks of candidates. 

JEE Main Cutoff – JEE Main Counselling 

The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) will conduct the JEE Main Counselling from June 15, 2020. Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD) has constituted JoSAA to regulate and manage counselling of JEE Main for admission to 107 engineering institutions including 23 IITs, 31 NITs, 25 IIITs and 28 CFTIs. The centralized admission process by JoSAA will enable candidates to participate in the admission process of these institutes through a single platform. Candidates need to follow the following steps to participate in the counselling process:

  • Counselling Registration
  • Filling of Choices 
  • Dual Reporting      

Candidates will not be allowed to modify the choice of colleges once locked.
