IIT B.Ed Admissions to Begin Next Year Onwards: Education Ministry

26 July 2022, New Delhi, IIT B.Ed Admissions: IIT Madras, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Guwahati, and IIT Bhubaneswar will soon start the admission process for the integrated four-year Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) courses from the next academic session (2023-24) onwards, as stated by the education ministry.ย 

The National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) has laid down a plan to provide B.Ed courses under the Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP) in multidisciplinary universities and colleges as discussed in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The admissions to B.Ed courses will be conducted via the National Testing Agency (NTA).

Mr. Subhas Sarkar, who is the minister of state in the ministry of education, also added that several IIT institutions have come together in submitting applications for the Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP) in order to begin IIT B.Ed admissions from next year onwards. Upon being asked about the plan regarding the IIT admissions, he said, “A consultative meeting was held amongst the participating Teacher Education Institutions (TEIs) to share the draft of the suggested curriculum framework on ITEP (4-Year Integrated Teacher Education Programme) on December 30th, 2020.”

Earlier, the Union Education Minister, Mr. Dharmendra Pradhan, also said that IITs will start B.Ed courses under the Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP) in coming years. He said, “Many B.Ed colleges and universities in our country are not up to the mark. We are unable to find teachers that meet our expectations, and if we do not produce good teachers, we cannot have good-quality education in our country. In regards to this, PM Narendra Modi has advised us to train teachers in an effective manner and produce a new generation of teachers who can carry on their job effectively and efficiently.โ€
