New Delhi, August 24, 2023 – GATE 2024 – Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore is likely to begin the registration process for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering for 2024 session on August 30, 2023.
Eligible candidates can register on the official website until September 29, 2023. The extended period of registration along with late fee will close on October 13, 2023. The GATE exam is conducted to test comprehensive understanding of the candidate in Engineering, Technology, Science, Architecture and Humanities.
Every year, nearly 7 to 10 lakh candidates apply for the entrance test for admission into various master’s and doctoral programmes and for recruitment in Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs).
The exams will be held in two shifts:
- 9:30 am to 12:30 pm
- 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm
The GATE exam is conducted by the seven pioneering Indian Institutes of Technology – IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Kanpur, IIT Madras, IIT Guwahati, IIT Roorkee including IISc Bangalore. This year, GATE 2024 is being conducted by Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore.

GATE 2024 – Eligibility Criteria
1. Candidates who are presently enrolled in their third year or beyond in an undergraduate degree program or who have successfully completed a government-recognised degree program in Engineering, Technology, Science, Architecture or Humanities can apply for the GATE 2024.
2. Professional Societies/Institutions that are involved in the conduct of examinations in various disciplines of engineering are mentioned below:
- The Institution of Engineers (India) (IE)
- The Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE)
- The Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE)
- The Aeronautical Society of India (AESI)
- The Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers (IIChE)
- The Indian Institute of Metals (IIM)
- The Indian Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIIE)
3. Applicants with certifications from professional societies should ensure that these examinations are recognised by the Ministry of Education (MoE), All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), University Grants Commission (UGC) or the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) and are equivalent to qualifications such as B.E./B.Tech./B.Arch./B.Planning, and so on.
4. For candidates who have completed or are currently pursuing their studies abroad, the following criteria shall apply:
- Candidates must either be in their 3rd year or beyond or have successfully completed a Bachelor’s degree program lasting at least three years in Engineering, Technology, Science, Architecture, or Humanities.
- Any candidate meeting the criteria outlined above is eligible to participate in GATE 2024.

Application Fee in the Regular Period: All candidates, including foreign nationals, are required to submit an application fee of ₹1800. However, the application fee for female candidates, SC/ST individuals, and persons with disabilities (PwD) is ₹900.
Application Fee in the Extended Period: All candidates, including foreign nationals must pay an application fee of ₹2300. For female and SC/ST candidates and persons with disabilities (PwD), the application fee is ₹1400.
