DU to Reopen in Phases from Sept 15; DDMA Issues Safety Guidelines

New Delhi, 7 September 2021 – Delhi University (DU) is all set to reopen its colleges in a phased manner from 15th September 2021.

As per the notice put up by the Office of Registrar on Monday, 6th September 2021, the theory classes for all undergraduate and postgraduate courses shall be held in online mode, until further notification. However, it also mentions that a phased transition into a blended online-offline mode of teaching and learning is being considered as a necessary step going forward. Besides, DU authorities have also issued several safety and health guidelines that students, teaching and non-teaching staff have to abide by.

Students must note that as for now, only practical classes will resume in physical mode. The circular issued by the administration of Delhi University reads, “Laboratory & practical classes and similar activities for the final year UG/PG students may be allowed in offline mode with maximum 50% capacity starting 15th September 2021.”

Delhi University Reopening – Guidelines Issued by DDMA

The Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) has issued a number of guidelines, taking the prevailing conditions into account.

Vaccination Guidelines and COVID-19 Protocols –

  • Upon reopening of the colleges, the teaching and non-teaching staff must be vaccinated with both doses of COVID vaccine.
  • The students are also advised to receive at least a single shot of the COVID-19 vaccine. However, it is mandatory for the students residing in hostels to get both vaccine doses.
  • COVID-19 safety protocols must be followed at all times and everyone must wear masks and use sanitisers along with maintaining social distance.

Online classes for theory subjects – The order informed that students don’t require to be physically present at the campus. The colleges will continue with the online classes for theory subjects until further notice.

University library open – The university library has been allowed to reopen for students from 6th September onwards following all the COVID-19 SOP’s issued by the administration. The colleges and departments can also give prior slots and appointments to students to avoid overcrowding.

Face-to-face consultation and placement services – Final year students may also come to college for academic consultation and placement purposes, as decided by the institute head.

For quite some time, the reopening of DU has been getting delayed. Earlier, the government had also allowed the resumption of offline classes. Even a fake notice was circulated about DU reopening from 20th September 2021. Nevertheless, it was clarified later that no such decision was taken, and finally, the process will begin from 15th September 2021.
