New Delhi, 13 October 2022: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has launched an academic mobility programme (AMS) to allow students who have returned from war-torn Ukraine to relocate to other countries and complete their higher studies. As per the notification released on the official website – nmc.org.in, the Ministry of External Affairs considered the AMS and decided to temporarily relocate Indian students to other universities, but the degree will be awarded by the Ukrainian university only.
Recent Update – Uzbekistan’s Management of Higher Education Institutions (MHEIs) is offering 2,000 seats to relocate Indian medical students from Ukraine to government medical institutes of Uzbekistan.
Academic Mobility Programme – Aim
- Over 20,000 Indian students had gone to Ukraine to complete their undergraduate medical courses.
- Due to the ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia, students had to leave their studies midway and return to their home countries.
- Under this AMS, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has released a list of three universities to which Indian students who returned from Ukraine can currently apply.
- The students can apply to three Georgia universities, including: Georgia National University SEU, New Vision University, and BAU International University Batumi.
Academic Mobility Programme – Important Details
- The National Medical Commission (NMC) has allowed Ukraine-returned students to apply for medical colleges in a total of 29 countries.
- The students can apply for a one-year mandatory internship in India.
- The students, who have completed the first 18 months of studies abroad, will be judged on the basis of theoretical knowledge.
- The students, who have completed 36 months in college, will be judged on the basis of clinical skills.
- The seat distribution in India will be based on the merit list.
- Students studying in foreign medical colleges are required to obtain a degree from a single university only.
- Due to the shortage of seats and stiff competition, the students are required to clear National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET).
- Students who fail to pass the National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET) will be given another chance to clear the Medical Screening Test (MST).
