CAT 2022 exam: The notification for the Common Admission Test (CAT) 2022 has been released by the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Bangalore on its official website: iimcat.ac.in. IIM Bangalore is the institute-in-charge of conducting the CAT 2022 exam. 

The CAT 2022 registration started on August 3, 2022 and ended on September 14, 2022. The CAT admit card was released on September 27. The CAT examination will be a computer-based test and will be conducted on November 27, 2022.

The CAT exam will be conducted in 150 cities across India. What is the Eligibility Criteria for CAT 2022 Exam?

  • Candidates must possess an undergraduate degree, with a minimum of 50% marks or equivalent CGPA. 
  • The candidates belonging to the SC, ST, and PwD categories must score at least 45% on their undergraduate degrees. 
  • The degrees must be awarded by any university and college as incorporated by an Act of Parliament. The institute must be declared to be deemed as a university under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956.
  • Candidates who are appearing for the final year examination of their respective undergraduate programmes or who are awaiting results can also apply. However, those candidates who are waiting for their results, if selected, will be allowed to join the programme only if they submit an undertaking from the head of the institution stating that they have completed all the requirements of the undergraduate degree.
  • The percentage of marks acquired by students will be analysed based on the criteria as practised by their educational institution. In case of CGPA and other grades, the conversion to percentage of marks will be based on the process as followed by respective institutions. 
  • If any educational institution states the unavailability of any policy for converting CGPA into percentage of marks, the conversion will be done by dividing the student’s CGPA by the maximum possible CGPA, and multiplying the result with the number 100.

What is the Reservation Criteria for CAT 2022 Exam?

  • 7.5 percent of the seats are reserved for scheduled tribes and scheduled castes. 
  • Candidates from Other Backward Classes (OBC) who fall into the “non-creamy” layer are allocated 27% of the seats. 
  • Candidates from economically weaker sections (EWS) are allotted 10% of the seats.
  •  The Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act of 2016 (RPwD Act 2016) stipulates that 5% of seats are set aside for people with benchmark disability (PwD) (at least 40% disability). 
  • Prior to applying, candidates from the reserved categories must carefully review the eligibility conditions. 

It should be emphasised that although IIMs strive to have applicants from the SC/ST/NC-OBC/EWS/PwD categories join the programme, the candidates must first achieve the minimal eligibility requirements and perform at a particular minimum level in order to be given consideration for admission.

NOTE: 

  • A candidate’s caste or tribe must be recorded in the Government of India schedule if they fall under the SC or ST categories. 
  • When registering for CAT, a copy of the SC/ST/NC-OBC/EWS/PwD certificates must be uploaded. A candidate’s application for the CAT would be denied if they fail to upload a copy of their caste or class certificate.
  • At the time of the interview, the SC/ST/NC-OBC/EWS/PwD certificates must be presented, along with a photocopy. Additionally, the certificates must be submitted when applying to any of the IIM courses. If this isn’t done during the post-CAT selection process, the candidate won’t be taken into consideration for the reserved category.

CAT 2022 Exam – Exam Pattern

  • CAT 2022 exam will take place on November 27, 2022 (Sunday) in three sections.
  • The examination will last for 120 minutes.

Degree and Certificates Verification

  • To demonstrate their eligibility at the time of the interview, a candidate must present all of their mark sheets along with verified copies.
  • Additionally, if a candidate is chosen for a programme, the original degree certificate, all semester and year mark sheets, and their attested copies must be submitted for verification at the time of enrollment in the programme.

Reservation Category Verification

  • At the time of their interview, SC, ST, NC-OBC, EWS, and PwD candidates must present the original caste/class and disability certificates, and submit a hardcopy.
  • They must also bring in the documents required in the “Marksheets and Degree Certificates” section.

Candidates in the Final Year of Graduation

  • Candidates in the final year of their bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification, who are selected for an interview must present an original certificate from the principal, registrar, or director of the university or institution attesting that they received at least 50% (or an equivalent grade).
  • Candidates belonging to the SC, ST, and PwD categories must present the same document attesting that they obtained at least 45% of the marks.

CAT 2022 Exam – Results

  • The CAT 2022 result will probably be announced by the second week of January, 2023.
  • Scorecards for CAT 2022 will be available to candidates on the CAT website: iimcat.ac.in
