New Delhi, 30 March 2022: Recently, the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) released an academic 2022-23 handbook. As per the handbook, the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics are now no longer compulsory to study for students seeking admission in architecture courses at the undergraduate level. Moreover, the subjects of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics will not be mandatory for admissions into fashion technology and packaging technology courses as well.

Note: In 2021, AICTE had announced that students who have not studied the subject of Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics in their Class 12 will be allowed to seek admission into engineering and technology programmes.
AICTE Handbook 2022-23 – Other Announcements
- Students who have studied computer science, electronics, information technology, biology, informatics practices, biotechnology, technical vocational subject, agriculture, engineering graphics, business studies, and entrepreneurship are eligible for admission in architecture, fashion technology, and packaging technology courses.
- The technical education body has also decided to reserve two seats per course for COVID-orphaned children under the PM Cares scheme in affiliated polytechnic institutions for the upcoming academic session of 2022-23.
- Such children who are issued ‘PM CARES certificate’ shall be eligible for admission in polytechnic institutions under the supernumerary (candidates who are economically weak) quota.
- The scheme will cover children under 18 years old who lost both parents, surviving parent, legal guardian or adoptive parent due to the COVID-19 pandemic between 3 March 2020 and 28 February 2022.
- Apart from this, AICTE has also made provisions for additional seats for ‘gifted and talented students. The norms for these seats will be communicated later on by AICTE.
