New Delhi, 15 March 2022: Government school students in Jharkhand will soon be provided with free residential coaching for the National Talent Search Examination (NTSE), Common Law Admission Test (CLAT), and Olympiads. In addition to that, provision for free coaching will also be arranged for candidates appearing for the National Defense Academy (NDA) examination under the Aakanksha programme being run by the state government of Jharkhand.
As per an official release, Chief Minister Hemant Soren was presented with this proposal by the Department of School Education and Literacy. The Chief Minister not only approved of this decision but also placed it under the state cabinet’s approval.
Note:
- The National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) is a national-level examination that grants scholarships to meritorious students studying in class 10.
- Olympiads are held by schools to test candidates’ aptitude and knowledge in subjects such as Science, English, Computer Science, and Mathematics.
- The Common-Law Admission Test (CLAT) is an examination conducted for admission to 22 national universities in India that offer various law courses.
Free Coaching for NTSE, CLAT, and Olympiads – Important Details & Selection Criteria
Candidates will be selected for free coaching on the basis of their performance in the entrance examination for the Aakanksha Programme. Only those candidates who are able to qualify the entrance examination will be provided with free coaching under the programme.
As per the announcement, a total of 100 students (25 students each from class 7 to class 10) will be selected for free residential coaching for olympiads and NTSE. Other than that, 100 students (50 students from class 11 and 50 from class 12) will be selected for the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT).
What is the Aakanksha Programme?
The Aakanksha Programme is an initiative taken by the Jharkhand State Education Department in 2016-17. The goal of the initiative is to provide free coaching to meritorious students appearing for engineering, medical, and other competitive examinations. The scheme ensures underprivileged students get proper guidance and learning material to help them crack competitive examinations.
As of now, under the Aakanksha programme, about 92 students have qualified for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main. Out of which, 11 candidates cleared the JEE (Advanced) exam. Additionally, a total of 64 students have also passed the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) with the help of the coaching provided under the programme.
