Engineering Aspirants To Get Courses in Gujarati, Punjabi, and Odia

New Delhi, 19 January, 2022: The All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) has decided to offer engineering courses in Gujarati, Punjabi, and Odia soon. This is being done to empower students to cross the apparent language barriers and enable them to gain engineering education in their native languages. Last year in 2021, AICTE also launched engineering in regional languages such as Hindi, Marathi, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, and Bengali to aid students gain an engineering degree.

Note: Last year in 2021, AICTE had approved 1,230 seats in 19 engineering institutions across India, of which, 255 seats had been filled. Here is the 2021 list of AICTE-approved engineering institutions offering BTech in regional languages:

What is the Reason for Offering Engineering Courses in Regional Languages?

  • Engineering courses in regional languages will help students imbibe confidence in themselves.
  • Regional language schools will not have to struggle with language issues.
  • Several regional students who fail to understand certain concepts have to struggle in getting hold of translated reference material. Such students will be able to understand concepts without any difficulty.

Note

  • There are a few agencies like Maharashtra Knowledge Corporation, which run diploma-level courses in Marathi. They have study material in Marathi as well.
  • Currently Study Webs of Active–Learning for Young Aspiring Minds (SWAYAM) and National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) have also translated e-books in eight regional languages excluding Assamese, Punjabi, and Odia.
