Academic sessions in technical and engineering institutions to commence from December first week – AICTE

The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has made it official that the academic sessions for freshers in technical and engineering institutes around the country will commence from 1st December 2020.

AICTE Chief Secretary Rajive Kumar made the official announcement on behalf of the AICTE. He quoted – 

โ€œAs we all are aware, our country is going through a national emergency that has arisen due to the outbreak of the COVID-19. Due to prolonged emergent conditions in the country, requests from various state governments and the ongoing admission process of IITs and NITs, the council has extended the last date of admission to first year engineering courses to November 30. 

Rajive Kumar also said, โ€œThe classes may be started in the online, offline or blended mode, following the prescribed protocols and guidelines related to COVID-19.โ€ He further hinted that if the situation will demand, the AICTE might postpone the commencement of the academic session even further for the 1st year engineering and technical students all around the country.

Previous Postponements

Earlier in the month of July, AICTE had released a notice regarding the academic calendar for 1st year engineering and technical students. The notice featured that the B.tech first year sessions around the country will commence their courses from 15th October 2020. However, owing to  the COVID-19 situation in the country, AICTE made amendments in the academic calendar. On 13th August 2020, AICTE again pushed the commencement of the academic session for freshers in engineering and technical undergraduate courses to 1st November 2020.
