The NTA or National Testing Agency conducts UGC NET (University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test) all over India to recruit candidates in Indian universities and colleges for the positions of:
- Assistant Professor (Only), or
- Both Assistant Professor and Junior Research Fellowship (JRF)
Every year, around 10 lakh candidates register for this examination to pursue a career as a researcher or a lecturer in different professional fields.
Until June 2018, the UGC NET exams were conducted by CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education). However, as per the announcement made by the HRD Ministry, NTA has taken up the responsibility to conduct the UGC NET exam from December 2018.
NTA handles all the exam-related activities such as generating admit cards before the exam, deciding venues and providing candidates all the technical, operational and various other support during UGC NET. UGC NET 2021 will be held in the CBT or Computer Based Test mode in more than 255 cities in India.
Important Updates – UGC NET 2021-22
- The NTA activated the UGC NET application form 2022 link along with the release of notification on 30 April 2022.
- The deadline to apply for UGC-NET December 2021 and June 2022 (merged cycle) has now been extended to 30th May 2022. Candidates can apply by visiting http://ugcnet.nta.nic.in.
- The UGC NET 2022 exam will be held in two shifts – from 9 am to 12 pm and from 3 pm to 6 pm in CBT mode.
In pursuant to representations from the candidates, regarding submission of online application form for UGC-NET December 2021 and June 2022 (merged cycles), it has been decided to extend the last date for submission and fee payment to 30 May 2022.

UGC NET 2021-22 application process comprises online registration, application and fee payment procedure. The foremost thing candidates need to do is register themselves for the exam. They need to visit the official UGC NET website, register themselves, fill up the application form and submit it to pay the application fee.

Step 1 – UGC NET Registration

2. Click on the ‘Fill Online Application Form’ tab
3. As a new user, click the ‘New Registration’ tab
4. You will be redirected to the UGC NET 2021-22 Application Form window

Step 3 – Upload Images and Signature

Important Points to Remember:
- The photograph should not be taken wearing sunglasses or cap
- Polaroid and Computer-generated photographs are not acceptable
- Photos of candidates wearing spectacles are allowed if they use it regularly
- Unclear photographs are liable to be rejected
- Forehead, eyes, nose and chin should be visible and the print should be of clear contrast
- Photograph needs to be taken on or after 1st March of the year of examination
- The photograph must have the name of the candidate along with the date of taking the photograph mentioned on the photo
- Self-composed portraits or photos taken using mobile may result in rejection of the application
- Main features of the face should not be covered by cloth, hair or shadow
- Candidates are advised to take 6 to 8 passport size coloured photographs with white background

Step 5 – Download the Confirmation Page
A confirmation page will be generated after the application fee is successfully paid. Candidates need to take at least four printouts of the confirmation page and keep it for future reference.

In case candidate/s had made any minor mistake or wish to edit any submitted detail after the final submission of the UGC NET application form, they can only do it when the correction window is active.
Steps to Edit/Rectify Details in Application Form
- Visit the official website of UGC NET 2022
- Click on the ‘Application Form Correction’
- Enter the login details like Registration Number, Password and Security Pin to log in
- Click on the link/tab available for application form correction
- Read the instructions and click on ‘I Agree’ checkbox
- Click on ‘Proceed for Application’ button
- Choose the field in which you require to make changes.
- Check the changes made carefully to avoid any error and then submit it
- Click on Submit button
- Review the corrections made and click on the checkboxes given at the bottom of the page
- Click on Final Submit button
- Take a printout of the revised Confirmation Page

UGC NET – Admit Card
The UGC NET admit cards are released in instalments. For the exam to be conducted around June, the admit cards will release soon on the official website. As the UGC NET admit card 2021-22 download link is not out, candidates can follow the below-mentioned steps to download their admit cards when the link becomes active:

UGC NET – Guidelines for Exam Day
Candidates must follow the online test instructions and guidelines set by UGC NET authority. The test instructions will help the candidates to attempt the computer-based exam without any hassles. Given below is a list of online test instructions set by the IGNOU panel that candidates need to abide by:
- The candidate/s must report at the examination centre at least an hour and a half (1.5 hours) before the allotted exam time
- Candidates arriving at the examination centre after 8:45 AM in First Shift and after 2:45 PM in Second Shift will not be allowed to sit for the examination
- The candidate/s must compulsorily bring the admit card (hard copy). The test centre officials will verify it and then allow the candidate to sit for the examination.
- The candidate must show, on-demand, the Admit Card downloaded/printed from the NTA’s website
- Admit cards must be in good condition. Dismantled, disfigured or mutilated admit cards compromising the details of the candidate will not be accepted
- A seat with Roll Number will be allotted to each candidate. They should find and sit on their allocated seats only
- No baggage is allowed inside the examination hall
- Candidates will only be allowed to carry a photo ID proof and hard copy of admit card inside the examination hall
- Candidates will not be allowed to carry mathematical/log tables, electronic watches, calculator, slide rules, pager, pen, bits of papers and cell phone inside the examination hall
UGC NET – Precautionary COVID-19 Guidelines
Candidates must check out these precautionary COVID-19 related guidelines and follow them at all the UGC NET exam centres:
- The body temperature of candidates will be checked using thermo guns
- A student with a body temperature above 99.4°F or 37.4°C will be taken to a separate room where they have to give the test alone.
- Social distancing will be maintained strictly at the exam centres. Candidates will have to maintain at least 6 feet or 2-metre distance from other candidates.
- Exam authority will ensure that monitor, keyboard, mouse, webcam, desk, chair, etc. are thoroughly sanitised.
- A significant gap will be present between two seats inside the exam hall.
- Hand sanitizers will be present at the entrance door and various places inside the exam centre for both candidates and the staff.
- Invigilators will distribute rough sheets to candidates wearing gloves.
- UGC NET admit cards of the candidates will be scanned through barcode readers, present at the entry.
- To avoid crowing, exam room numbers will not be displayed outside the centre.
- Exam centres will keep stock of fresh masks to ensure hygiene and stop unfair means during the exam.
- Candidates violating COVID-19 directives/advisories will not be allowed to sit for the exam
- Candidates will be allowed to leave the test centre one at a time to avoid the rush and maintain social distancing.
UGC NET – Exam Centres
UGC NET 2021-22 exam is likely to be conducted in 541 exam centres across India. The exam centre allotted to each candidate will be printed on their respective admit cards. Please note that the candidates cannot make the changes once the preferred centres are submitted by them during the application process.

To recruit the candidates applying for Assistant Professor and Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) or Assistant Professor only posts, UGC NET 2022 will be conducted in online mode.
Candidates who have registered and applied for the exam should go through the exam pattern thoroughly and practice well with the help of online mock tests before attempting the exam. Here are a few key points that they should keep in mind.
1. UGC NET will be conducted in CBT mode
2. The format of questions asked in the exam will be MCQ (multiple choice questions)
3. All questions will have 4 options
4. Candidates will be able to move between questions as NTA has not imposed any restriction to answer questions as per section numbers
5. There is no negative marking in UGC NET exam
6. The UGC NET exam will be conducted in 3 hours or 180 minutes –
- Forenoon (Shift 1) – 9:00 AM to 12:00 Noon
- Afternoon (Shift 2) – 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM

UGC NET – Answer Key
UGC NET and NTA will release the preliminary answer key on the official UGC NTA website after the exams are conducted. Candidates can download the answer key, which will be available in PDF format. They can calculate their probable scores with the help of the answer key and response sheet, much before the results are declared.
Candidates who have taken the test can raise objections against the preliminary answer key if they find any discrepancy or error in one or more answers. Candidates will have to pay Rs. 1000 per question as an objection fee to file their objection/s. After the exam authority evaluates and rectifies the errors in the prelim answer key (if the objections are found genuine), the rectified final answer key shall be released. Candidates whose objections are found genuine will be refunded the objection fee. Candidates cannot raise objections against the answers published in the final answer key.
UGC NET – Result
The schedule for UGC NET result declaration remains unannounced. Once the exams are conducted, and the notification for the results is out, candidates can check their results online by using their registration number and date of birth on the official UGC NET or NTA website.

In which format are the questions asked in the UGC NET 2021-22 exam?

What is the duration of the UGC NET exam?
According to the UGC NET exam pattern, the duration to complete Paper 1 is 1 hour. Candidates will be given 2 hours to complete Paper 2. This will be a continuous exam with no breaks between both the papers and hence, the total duration of the exam will be 3 hours.
