New Delhi, 21 March 2022: Recently, the Divisional Commissioner of Madhya Pradesh – Rajiv Sharma – has launched an initiative to ensure that bright Adivasi children stay in their hometown to get better guidance for competitive exams preparation. Under this initiative, medical students in Madhya Pradesh’s Shahdol district are all set to mentor tribal children to improve their standard of education.
Note:
- In most parts of Madhya Pradesh, children from the tribal communities are deprived of proper guidance at home due to which they often go out to other states to prepare for competitive exams.
- Though there is abundance of talent in Madhya Pradesh, tribal children are unable to achieve their goals due to a lack of guidance.
MBBS Students As Mentors To Tribal Students: Objectives
- Medical students studying MBBS at Shahdol Medical College will guide Adivasi students of Class 12 who aspire to become doctors.
- The tribal students will be given guidance regarding NEET exam preparation, so that they can achieve better results in the medical entrance exam.
- Efforts will also be made to provide timely guidance to tribal children studying in Class 8 and Class 10 for competitive examinations in the future, so that these children feel confident about their goals and begin working towards them from a young age.
- A dialogue between Class 12 science students belonging to the tribal community and MBBS students will be held at the Shahdol Medical School auditorium.
- The proposal has been discussed with the Dean and professors at the Shahdol Medical College.
- After the dialogue, medical students will spread across various schools for tutoring Advasi children, which will help the deserving students to acquire all the skills required to clear NEET.
GOAL: Another Initiative for Tribal Youth Welfare
- In 2020, the Union Minister for Tribal Affairs – Arjun Munda – launched the “GOAL (Going Online As Leaders)” programme of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs (MoTA) in partnership with Facebook.
- The GOAL programme is designed to provide mentorship to tribal youth through digital mode.
- The digital program acts as a medium to explore hidden talents of the tribal youth. This will help in their personal development as well as contribute to an all-round upliftment of the society.
- The program empowers 5,000 tribal youths to harness the full potential of digital platforms and tools to learn new ways of doing business, explore, and connect with domestic and international markets.
- The program also creates awareness amongst tribal beneficiaries about various schemes initiated by the central and state governments for welfare of Scheduled Tribes (STs) and their fundamental duties.
- Efforts are also made to integrate the program with other government schemes such as Mudra Yojana, Kaushal Vikas Yojana, Jan Dhan Yojana, Skill India, Start Up India, Stand Up India, among others.
Note:
- In this program, 5,000 scheduled tribe youth (known as ‘Mentees’) get an opportunity to receive training by experts from different disciplines and fields (known as ‘Mentors’). There will be 1 mentor for every 2 mentees.
