CBSE Syllabus 2021-22 Released. No Changes in Curriculum for Classes 9 to 12

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released the syllabus for Classes 9, 10, 11, and 12 for the students who would be appearing for CBSE board examination next year i.e., 2022. Students must note that there is there is no reduction in syllabus for the secondary and senior-secondary classes for the academic year 2021-22.Β 

Besides, CBSE has proposed a few modifications in the exam pattern of Class 9, 10, 11, and 12 exams for the academic session 2021-22, as per which students will now be posed with more competency-based questions, and queries that assess one’s application of concepts in practical and unfamiliar real-life situations.Β

  • For Classes 9 and 10 – There will be an introduction of a minimum of 30% competency-based questions which will be in the form of multiple-choice questions (MCQs), case-based questions, source base integrated questions, etc. Further, 20% of the questions would be objective-type. 20% of the questions will be objective type and the remaining 50% of the question paper will include short and long answer type questions.Β 
  • For Classes 11 and 12 – 20% of the questions will be competency-based, 20% objective-type, while the remaining 60% will be short and long type questions.Β 
  • Factors that remain unchanged – Students must note that no change has been introduced in the overall marks and duration of the examinations.Β 
  • Sample papers and syllabus – To get a better understanding of the newly introduced exam pattern, students can refer to sample papers and syllabus released by CBSE.Β 
  • Changes in syllabus – In the year 2020, the syllabus of senior classes was reduced by 30% due to the hindrances caused by COVID-19. However, the syllabus has been restored completely, as per the curriculum of 2021-22.Β

CBSE Board Exams 2021

CBSE Class 12 exam schedule update – On 14 April 2021, CBSE announced its decision to cancel the Class 10 board exam and postpone the Class 12 board exam for the academic year 2020-21. Simultaneously, it also stated that a review meeting will be conducted to discuss an appropriate schedule for Class 12 exams on June 1. However, ever since, the COVID wave has continued to rise, raising the concerns of both students as well as the parents. Hence, on 18 May 2021, Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank sat with School Education Secretaries of all states and UTs to discuss a suitable solution before-time, in accordance with the COVID-19 situation in different states across the country. Final decision on Class 12 board exams is still pending.Β 

CBSE Class 10 assessment 2021 update – Due to the cancellation of the Class 10 board exams this year, the assessment of 80 marks (which was previously based on the final board exams) will be done by the schools on the basis of the marks scored by the student in various exams/tests conducted internally by the school during the academic year 2020-21. The board has instructed the schools to keep the marks in accordance with the past performance of the school in Class 10 board exams.

The result for CBSE Class 10 is delayed and is expected to be declared in July 2021.
